Job Summary:
The Fleet Diesel Mechanic is responsible for assisting with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company fleet vehicles, including diesel-powered trucks. This role is ideal for individuals beginning their career in diesel mechanics and are eager to learn and develop hands-on skills in a fast-paced fleet environment. The ideal candidate is team-oriented with a positive attitude.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
- Assist with preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and fluid checks
- Perform basic diagnostics and repairs under supervision
- Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical and safety issues
- Support senior mechanics with engine, brake, electrical, and hydraulic system repairs
- Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records
- Ensure all work complies with DOT and company safety standards
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Respond to roadside service calls as needed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of diesel engines and systems
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment
- Prioritize safety and maintain clean shop area.
- Exhibit a team-oriented attitude and focus on quality.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical training in diesel mechanics preferred
- Valid Class A CDL, or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire
- Fleet industry experience or prior automotive experience a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Must be in good physical condition with strong motor skills.
- Safely lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively and frequently.
- Ability to use power and hand tools safely
- Stand, lift, twist, bend, kneel, push, pull, and move for 8 to 12 hours
- Frequently climb in and out of truck cabs, use stairs and ramps, work in tight spaces
- Ability to work in a shop setting with exposure to noise, dust, and chemicals (proper safety equipment will be provided)
