Job Summary:

The Fleet Diesel Mechanic is responsible for assisting with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company fleet vehicles, including diesel-powered trucks. This role is ideal for individuals beginning their career in diesel mechanics and are eager to learn and develop hands-on skills in a fast-paced fleet environment. The ideal candidate is team-oriented with a positive attitude.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

 

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and fluid checks
  • Perform basic diagnostics and repairs under supervision
  • Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical and safety issues
  • Support senior mechanics with engine, brake, electrical, and hydraulic system repairs
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Ensure all work complies with DOT and company safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
  • Respond to roadside service calls as needed

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of diesel engines and systems
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Prioritize safety and maintain clean shop area.
  • Exhibit a team-oriented attitude and focus on quality.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical training in diesel mechanics preferred
  • Valid Class A CDL, or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire
  • Fleet industry experience or prior automotive experience a plus

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be in good physical condition with strong motor skills.
  • Safely lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively and frequently.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools safely
  • Stand, lift, twist, bend, kneel, push, pull, and move for 8 to 12 hours
  • Frequently climb in and out of truck cabs, use stairs and ramps, work in tight spaces
  • Ability to work in a shop setting with exposure to noise, dust, and chemicals (proper safety equipment will be provided)
