Fleet and Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

We are looking for a hands-on, battle-tested Maintenance Supervisor to run our shop, lead a team of skilled mechanics, and keep our heavy equipment and vehicles operating at peak performance.Whether you’ve managed municipal transit buses under tight schedules or tackled the relentless demands of yellow iron and waste collection trucks, you know what it takes to run a high-volume, safety-first shop. • Heavy Fleet Experience: Proven background supervising mechanics in high-utilization environments—Waste/Recycling, Municipal Transit, or Heavy Civil Fleet operations strongly preferred.

• Union & Policy Savvy: Hands-on experience supervising unionized personnel and applying labor agreements fairly and consistently.

• Leadership & Mechanical Grit: A grasp of evaluation, training, scheduling, and resource allocation for medium/heavy-duty diesel, hydraulics, and shop machinery.

• CDL Advantage: A valid Driver's License is required. A Class A or Class B CDL (without air brake or auto-only restrictions) is required upon hire or achievable within 6 months.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree or technical trade certifications are a plus.

• Reliability: Ability to support shift work and respond to emergency fleet demands when the mission calls for it.

Responsibilities

• Lead & empower the Crew: Manage, schedule, and support our shift mechanics, technicians, and shop personnel. You’ll set the pace, balance workloads, and foster a team environment that values pride in workmanship.

• Master Fleet Uptime: Monitor shop workflow and dynamically adjust schedules to tackle unexpected repairs, route emergencies, and routine PMs—keeping operational downtime to an absolute minimum.

• Enforce Safety & Standards: Drive a uncompromising culture of safety. Conduct facility/equipment audits, investigate component failures or incidents, and ensure all work aligns with company safety policies and union/collective bargaining agreements (where applicable).

• Manage Operations & Inventory: Partner with the Equipment Maintenance Manager on parts procurement, vendor tools, budgeting, and inventory tracking to ensure the shop never lacks what it needs to fix the job right the first time.

• Maintain Compliance & Records: Oversee DVIRs, Equipment Condition Reports, and work orders to ensure full regulatory and environmental compliance across vehicles, facilities, and the yard.

• Be the Operational Bridge: Serve as the crucial communication link between the shop floor, drivers, and operations leadership.
