Overview:
Consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Fitness Coordinator will be responsible for developing, coordinating and supervising healthy living programming including fitness center experience, fitness orientations and staff development. The Fitness Coordinator will lead a team of part time and lead staff to ensure the “best in class” execution of assigned areas.
25-28 hours per week - varied schedule
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a department leader and provide day-to-day team guidance as instructed by Healthy Living Director.
- With assistance from the Healthy Living Director, lead/supervise fitness floor associates including scheduling, hiring, training and additional operational and program development responsibilities
- Maintain positive relations, accountability and foster a learning environment to fitness floor associates and other departments
- Work 28 hours per week, as lead and in direct service, based on needs of the facility and schedules. Schedule varies Monday-Saturday; including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Help members and program participants connect with one another to form positive relationships; introduce members to group exercise and fitness program communities based on their health and wellness goals
- Conduct fitness appointments and assist members on proper exercise techniques, goal setting and program development
- Schedule fitness appointments and perform fitness consultations when needed
- Comply with all departmental safety guidelines to ensure standards are met; perform daily checks on assigned areas to ensure quality and safety standards are met
- Ensure fitness equipment, group exercise spaces and facility are clean and safe at all times
- Monitor member’s progress in meeting personal and program goals (both formally and informally)
- Serve as a key project team member i.e. equipment maintenance and equipment installation projects/initiatives, etc.
- Increase member engagement through the promotion of programs and/or volunteer opportunities
- Lead staff department meetings/trainings and attend assigned events
- Serve as a focal point for member or staff issues, and is able to diffuse situations in a comfortable fashion
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance according to departmental uniform guidelines
- Actively participate and assist in meeting Annual Campaign Fundraising Goal through storytelling, cultivation and stewardship.
Physical Requirements:
The Fitness Coordinator must represent the organization in a professional image. He/she must be able to maneuver the grounds and facilities freely and be capable of speaking clearly, including, but not limited to: walking, stooping, carrying minimum of 50 lbs., sitting, standing, pushing, climbing, kneeling, lifting minimum of 50 lbs., and crouching.

- The Fitness Coordinator will be responsible for observing the following rules.

- Report all job accidents the same day the accident happens.
- Obtain authorization from your supervisor for all non-emergency treatments for accidents.
- Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles.
- Keep the area where you work clean and neat at all times.
- Do not remove or bypass any guards on any machinery at any time.
- Ask your supervisor when you need additional equipment or instructions to get the job done safely.
- Lift with your legs, not your back, and get assistance with loads over 50 pounds.
- Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
- Follow all other written and spoken safety rules.
Qualifications:
- Two (2+) years continuous fitness experience with 1 nationally accredited fitness certifications OR degree related to health and fitness with 1-year continuous experience OR 2+ years continuous experience with one or more national fitness certifications and an undergraduate degree in any field
- Minimum of one year of direct supervisory or team leader experience
- Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED trained, First Aid certification and Child Abuse Prevention Training trained upon hire.
- Advanced knowledge of fitness equipment and its uses
- Experience conducting fitness education appointments and assessments
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and decision-making abilities
- Demonstrate effective and independent problem solving/conflict competencies
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to promote member engagement, and be a team player
- Enthusiastic, friendly, and positive demeanor
- Ability to multi-task, while remaining flexible to the needs of the fitness floor
- Basic computer skills i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel and the ability to learn YMCA-specific applications including but not limited to Daxko, Bloomerang and When to Work.

Posted Salary Range:
USD $15.00 - USD $17.50 /Hr.
