As a Fire Protection Designer at Emerald Engineering, you will design fire protection systems for a diverse portfolio of commercial projects, transforming engineering concepts into accurate, coordinated construction documents. Working closely with engineers, project managers, architects, and other design disciplines, you will help deliver code-compliant, high-quality designs that support successful project execution from concept through construction.This role plays an important part in protecting lives and property through thoughtful, technically sound fire protection system design. Your attention to detail, coordination, and technical expertise will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations while reinforcing Emerald Engineering's commitment to engineering excellence.ResponsibilitiesDesign fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, hospitality, multifamily, and other building projects.Prepare accurate construction documents, drawings, specifications, and supporting design documentation.Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing for fire protection systems.Coordinate fire protection designs with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural disciplines.Apply applicable building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, and jurisdictional requirements throughout the design process.Participate in project coordination meetings and collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).Review shop drawings, respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), and support construction administration activities.Conduct field investigations, site visits, and design verification as needed.Maintain organized project documentation while managing multiple projects and deadlines.Contribute to departmental quality standards and continuous process improvement initiatives.QualificationsMinimum of two (2) years of fire protection design experience within a consulting engineering, contractor, or building systems environmentProficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft OfficeWorking knowledge of applicable NFPA standards, International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), and applicable local codesExperience preparing construction documents for commercial fire protection systemsStrong understanding of fire sprinkler system design principles and multidisciplinary coordinationExcellent organizational, analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting project deadlinesExperience designing standpipe systems, fire pumps, clean agent systems, and other specialized fire protection systemsExperience working within a multidisciplinary consulting engineering firmPhysical & Work EnvironmentMust be able to work full-time (Monday‑Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM) onsite from Emerald's corporate headquarters in Tampa, FL (33619).Work is performed primarily in a standard professional office environment and involves prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, including frequent use of Revit, AutoCAD, and other engineering design software.Occasional travel to active construction sites may be required, including walking uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and navigating typical jobsite conditions.CompensationCompetitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated technical expertise.Working at Emerald EngineeringEmerald offers a collaborative environment where technical excellence, professional growth, and teamwork are valued.
