We're seeking a Fire Protection Designer in Sioux Falls, SD to create detailed sprinkler system designs for commercial construction projects.

- Ensure code compliance and constructability through accurate design documentation
- Support efficient installations through clear and coordinated design drawings
- Collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality fire protection solutions
- Build expertise in fire protection engineering and design standards
Responsibilities
- Prepare fire sprinkler system design drawings using CAD software
- Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems to meet NFPA standards
- Review architectural and structural drawings for coordination and conflicts
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and field teams on design requirements
- Prepare material takeoffs and equipment schedules from design drawings
- Submit designs to authorities having jurisdiction for plan review and approval
- Respond to plan review comments and revise drawings as needed
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and field measurements
- Maintain organized project files and design documentation
- Stay current with NFPA codes and fire protection design standards
Requirements
Must-Haves
- 3+ years of fire sprinkler design experience in commercial construction
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit for fire protection design
- Knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 14, and applicable fire codes
- Experience with hydraulic calculation software (HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, or similar)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
Nice-to-Haves
- NICET Level II or higher in Water-Based Systems Layout
- Experience with BIM coordination and Navisworks
- Knowledge of special hazard fire suppression systems
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field
