Fire Prevention Officer
Join Our Team: Fire Prevention Officer
The City of Auburn is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Fire Prevention Officer to lead critical fire safety and community risk reduction initiatives. This role is essential to protecting lives and property through proactive fire prevention, public education, and code enforcement. Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and enforce the Uniform Fire Code, Life Safety Code, and related ordinances
- Conduct plans review and inspections to ensure compliance with fire safety codes
- Administer the department's public education programs, including 'Learn Not to Burn' and
Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention
- Investigate fire origin and cause; collaborate with other authorities as required
- Coordinate risk reduction activities and supervise firefighters assigned to prevention tasks
- Maintain property records, pre-incident plans, and community 'Right to Know' data
- Provide expert guidance on fire prevention codes and recommend updates as needed
Expertise & Skills
- Strong knowledge of fire prevention codes, firefighting methods, and emergency management
- Ability to research, analyze, and communicate findings professionally
- Skilled in planning, organizing, and evaluating fire prevention programs
- Proficient in computer technology and data management
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; ability to work under stressful conditions
Qualifications
Minimum:
- High school diploma with specialized instruction in fire prevention/firefighting or equivalent experience
- Progressively responsible fire service experience
- Valid State of Maine driver's license with good driving record
Preferred:
- Associate's degree in Fire Science, Criminal Justice, or related field
- Certifications such as Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I & II, Fire Plans Examiner, and Fire Investigator Technician
