The City of Bangor is pleased to announce a new opportunity within the Fire Department for Fire Medic Paramedic.

The Bangor Fire Department is accepting applications to fill immediate openings for Fire Medics Paramedics. This position is essential in delivering advanced life support ALS and emergency medical care while supporting fire operations in a fast-paced high-volume environment.

Requirements ------------

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid drivers license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • State of Maine Paramedic License
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • EVOCAVOC certification

Qualified applicants will undergo an extensive evaluation, including a physical ability test. Successful applicants will also be required to pass a background check and psychological evaluation.

Benefits & Pay ----------------

Bangor Fire Medics work an attractive daytime schedule of four 10-hour shifts per week, Monday-Friday. They receive a highly competitive wage package, starting pay $27.49 - $32.54 per hour, plus an additional $2.00 per hour ambulance stipend, and an educational incentive of $5,000 for Paramedic certification.

Retirement options include Maine Public Employees Retirement System plan 3C 23 of average final compensation after 25 years, with no age minimum or ICMA-RC 401(a). Lateral transfer pay and vacation accumulation are available for candidates with current career EMS service up to 6 years of experience.

The City pays up to 80% of health insurance costs, with several health insurance options, including low-deductible plans and a plan with a generous Health Savings Account (H.S.A) match. Affordable coverage for dental, vision, and life insurance plans are also available.

Bangor Fire Department employees enjoy time off, starting at 3 weeks of vacation annually, 180 hours of sick leave per year, and 13 recognized holidays for the purposes of holiday benefit pay.

Written and Physical Exam -------------------------

Written and Physical Exam by invitation only, Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Location: Bangor Fire Department Central Station - 289 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401, at 0800 am. Interviews will be held in the afternoon following successful completion of physical exams.
