Position Title Fire Lab Aide/Public Safety Training Center (Regular Part-Time) Division Advancement & Community Engagement(DIV) Department Public Safety Training Center Job Description
This position is responsible for effective reinforcement of classroom instruction by providing instructional support and monitoring student progress in accordance with the PSTC Director directives. Maintenance of the training facility/storage trailers and preparing the grounds for fire, rescue, hazmat or other exercises are the critical daily functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain training facilities and storage trailers for technical skills exercises.
- Provide for the general cleanliness and security of the training equipment and work area.
- Ensure a safe environment for the conduct of technical skills training.
- Prepare training grounds, fire, rescue, hazmat, rescue equipment, and training props for daily use based on the weekly technical skills course scheduled.
- Test and conduct equipment checks of associated training equipment.
- Provide technical assistance to instructor staff concerning skills preparations and procedures, including preparing props for courses.
- Maintain records of activities undertaken in the support of the courses which may include data entry and retaining information regarding training preparation and associated equipment and condition.
- Ensure compliance with associated NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist teachers with completing paperwork.
- Maintain up-to-date with professional credentials, best practices, and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
- Maintain and develop work-related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional and cross-training opportunities.
- Attend all required meetings and training.
- Perform additional grade-level support duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required Qualifications
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE
- Three to five years of related fire experience required.
- Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.
CLEARANCES
The successful candidate will be required to obtain/provide the following clearances prior to hire:
- PA Child History clearance
- PA Criminal Record Check clearance
- FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance

HAZARDS
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toed boots, metatarsal protector, gloves, masks, eye and hearing protection, respirator, etc. is required to be worn to prevent risk of injury or work-related illnesses.
Salary $12.72/hr. Schedule Days/Hours Monday - Part time hours will vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Tuesday - Part time hours will vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Wednesday - Part time hours will vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Thursday - Part time hours will vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Friday - Part time hours will vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules, Saturday - Part time hours will vary 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. based on class schedules
