Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Fire & Emergency Management Coordinator will coordinate the necessary planning, recruiting, instruction, record-keeping, and reporting for BCCC's standard and CCP Fire Academies as well as certification and non-certification fire and emergency management courses. The coordinator must be well versed in the fire service, detail oriented, and willing to maintain a flexible schedule when needed. The coordinator will be expected to manage contracted instructors and part-time employees, provide direct instruction to students, keep up to date professionally and educationally, maintain open communication with service area public safety agencies, and to assist the director in all aspects of the Fire & Emergency Management department.

Associate Degree in a fire-related field. NC OSFM Level II Instructor. Valid NC driver license.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a fire-related field. Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, HazMat Ops, and FLSE certified. 5+ years of experience in the Fire & Emergency Management field.

Essential Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and coordinating BCCC's standard and CCP Fire Academies.
  • Recruiting, managing, and training contracted and part-time instructors.
  • Preparing and teaching assigned courses following a syllabus or outline in seated, hybrid, or fully online environments.
  • Maintaining accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for Fire & Emergency Management courses.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and updating course syllabi and outlines and ensuring that certification courses are properly aligned with requisite standards.
  • Recommending and assisting with program and course revisions as needed.
  • Using formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
  • Creating an effective learning environment and employing teaching methods for various learning styles.
  • Submitting required reports and fulfilling all contract provisions to which you, the department, or BCCC are obligated.
  • Assisting with and maintaining an instructional environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Maintaining an inventory of departmental equipment and resources.
  • Maintaining student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitoring work area to ensure instructor and student data is protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements.
  • Prioritizing and managing time effectively and multitasking appropriate to the situation.
  • Adapting and responding to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve on appropriate college committees as requested.
  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
  • Interact with students, the public, the community, agencies, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
  • Comply with the college's policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

FLSA Exempt Estimated Hours per Week 39 Salary $48,000 - $56,000 Based on the College's salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience.
