A Glimpse of the Job
The Fire and Life Safety Equipment Specialist II, under general supervision, is responsible for coordinating and conducting comprehensive inspections, data collection, documenting findings and scheduling inspections of one or more fire and life safety systems or equipment types, including, but not limited to fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, fire doors, shutters, curtains and etc.
Essential Duties
Fire and Life Safety System Inspection and Coordination
Exercises a comprehensive approach to conducting in-depth inspections for multiple fire and life safety systems or equipment categories, ensuring adherence to standards and regulations including fire hydrants and fire extinguishers
Coordinates scheduling of inspections pertaining to various fire and life safety systems or equipment, optimizing operational efficiency and resource allocation
Thoroughly documents the flow test results of campus fire hydrants, updating relevant databases to maintain accurate and up-to-date records
Provides complex current flow test data/conducts new flow test as needed for new construction/renovation projects
Inventory Management and Equipment Testing
Inventories new fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, and updates databases as appropriate to ensure accuracy and efficiency
Assesses inventory and implements barcoding
Utilizes equipment to conduct hydrostatic testing of portable fire extinguishers
Assistance, Events & Emergency Response
Provides guidance, mentorship, and professional development assistance to Fire and Life Safety Equipment Specialist staff, fostering their growth and proficiency
Assists superiors as needed
Collaborates with other personnel in preparation of and during special events that have a need for Fire and Life Safety input
Responds with other personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders
What You Need to Know
Salary: $25.26/hour

Required Education and Experience
Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Four years of experience in fire and life safety or related
Required Licenses and Certifications
Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to operate and conduct hydrostatic testing equipment; maintain accurate records
Knowledge of NFPA 10 (fire extinguishers) and NFPA 24 (fire hydrants)
Ability to demonstrate proficiency with testing equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Certified fire extinguisher technician
Additional Information

Computer: 5 hours
Hydrostatic Testing Equipment 10 hours
iPad 3 hours
Physical Requirements
Ability to ascend stairs, ladders, etc.
Ability to lift and/or more heavy weighted objects
Ability to work in hot, cold, dusty environments
Must be able to traverse long distances, remain stationary for long periods of time such as serving during special events
Other Requirements and Factors
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system
This position is security sensitive
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
