The Financial Counselor is responsible for creating patient financial responsibility forms, entering patient owed amounts in the practice management system, and collection of patient financial responsibility prior to surgery, all in well planned and timely fashion. Systematic process mapping and optimization to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in work flows and prompt professional communication with internal and external stakeholders striving to achieve the highest level of customer service.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON:

  • Establishing communication and working closely with the Surgery Scheduling Team.
  • Answering all telephone inquiries from patients regarding out of pocket expenses, insurance questions, financing, or other concerns.
  • Verification of medical benefits for surgery, lasers, and injections.
  • Discuss benefits and costs of non-covered benefits with patients, create an estimated out of pocket worksheet. Secure any out of pocket financial requirements from patient.
  • Back-up to our Prior Authorization Specialist
  • Interfacing with our Billing Department as needed.
  • Pre- Surgical Collections
  • Collections Worksheets
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU KNOW:

To be successful in this role you will have the following experience or knowledge:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Billing/Coding
  • Previous ophthalmology, healthcare or customer service work experience preferred
