Financial Assistance Representative (Administrative Tasks/Some Billing Knowledge Required/Data Entry)
Shift: 40 Hours Per Week/Day Shift/8:00am-4:30pm
Location; Lancaster Pa.
POSITION SUMMARY:
- This position will provide notification of program eligibility to individuals who have applied for Penn Medicine's Financial Assistance Program. The Financial Assistance Representative will monitor accounts, review insurance denials and coordinate account review as needed prior to applying Financial Assistance discounts to eligible accounts. This position works closely with other departmental staff to facilitate follow up to patients and maintain weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains an understanding of the revenue cycle which includes insurance billing, associated correspondence (e.g. eobs, electronic remittance advices etc.) and account adjustments. Independently identifies, resolves or directs issues to the appropriate party.
- Performs processes including but not limited to: Establishing payment plans, posting account adjustments, verifying and building insurance coverage, resubmission of claims, and managing patient correspondence.
- Communicates effectively with patients and outside organizations of Financial Assistance eligibility.
- Tracks and monitors trends
- maintains work queues and benchmarks.
- Works closely with internal and external customers to resolve issues creatively and within policy.
- Reports all potential problems and issues immediately.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance at all times when working with PHI.
- Maintains knowledge of, compliance with, and enforces the following: Financial Assistance Policy, Medical Assistance guidelines and Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
- Provides ongoing support and training to internal and external staff as needed.
- Processes and follows special accounts.
- Assists with special projects as assigned.
- Sorting mail, working knowledge of AR (Epic experience )
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- H.S. Diploma/GED (Required) with Education Specialization, and 1+ years Customer Service, Billing and Account Resolution experience. •3+ years Customer Service, Billing and Account Resolution experience preferred.
