Title: Finance Specialist
Location : North Kingstown, RI
Type: Contract
The Finance Specialist (FS) is a key collaborator within the Finance Team, supporting management in maintaining a "best-in-class " organization. This role ensures high-quality service delivery to both internal departments and external stakeholders through rigorous operational execution, treasury management, and continuous process improvement.
Operations & Treasury: Managing daily financial transactions, premium billing, collections, and disbursements.
Reporting & Compliance: Preparing/reconciling financial results and ensuring adherence to technical laws and regulations.
Audit & Control: Supporting internal controls and facilitating audit requests.
Strategy & Collaboration: Participating in corporate projects and fostering knowledge sharing across the team.
Contribute to corporate and departmental strategic project teams.
Independently manage and complete smaller assigned Finance projects by utilizing available resources and performing required task steps.
Daily Transactions: Execute financial procedures in strict compliance with Company policy and regulatory requirements.
Close Cycle: Manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring all documents and reports are timely, accurate, and complete.
Quality Assurance: Review the work of peers, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
System Integrity: Identify and resolve issues within the General Ledger or data reporting tools in collaboration with technical specialists.
Analysis: Research unusual balances or transactions and manage assigned GL accounts.
Execute treasury functions including accounts receivable/payable, premium billing, and agent compensation.
Manage disbursements for claimants, providers, and policyholders.
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of treasury workflows.
Continuous evaluation and updating of internal controls and documentation to reflect the current operating environment.
Recommend enhancements to procedures and reporting structures.
Serve as a point of contact for auditors and external specialists.
Customer Focus: Resolve stakeholder issues and lead "ease of doing business " initiatives to improve user experience.
Cross-Functional Support: Foster collaboration across departments to resolve problems and execute initiatives.
Team Support: Assist management and peers during peak periods or absences.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical accounting and industry best practices.
Participate in industry seminars, training, and certification programs.
Engage in proactive coaching, self-development, and providing upward feedback.
Education & Experience
Education: BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or Audit (extensive professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
Industry Knowledge: Preferred exposure to medical/pharmacy brokering, insurance/group benefits, third-party administration, or revenue recognition.
Technical Expertise: Proven experience in financial close procedures, treasury operations, and financial analysis.
Project Skills: Previous experience working within project teams and a strong ability to identify control weaknesses and recommend solutions.
Technology Skills
Software: Proficiency with Great Plains (or similar G/L packages).
Microsoft Office: Advanced skills in Excel and Word (Access skills are a plus).
Systems: Experience with administrative systems is highly desirable.
