Join a team that plays a critical role in protecting public health and maintaining Wichitas water quality standards. The Field Worker 2 - Laboratory Technician supports the Citys water production and pumping operations through the collection, testing, analysis, and documentation of water samples used to monitor treatment processes and regulatory compliance. This position combines fieldwork and laboratory operations, requiring precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to data accuracy. Employees perform routine chemical, biological, and microbiological testing, calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments, collect samples from water production and distribution facilities, and maintain accurate records that support operational decisions. The work directly contributes to the delivery of safe, reliable drinking water for the Wichita community. Work is performed under the direction of a technical supervisor and is reviewed through observation, quality control measures, and evaluation of completed laboratory reports and test results.
Workdays and Hours - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. This is a limited full-time position.

Requirements of Work
Knowledge of biology, or chemistry.
Working knowledge of laboratory methods and procedures.
Ability to learn, within a reasonable period of time, techniques and procedures for performing standard laboratory examinations.
Ability to perform detailed, repetitive tasks.
Knowledge of the standard computer keyboard configuration and ability to access, interpret and record information using a video display terminal and electronic keyboard.
Normal color perception.
Ability to work in an environment that may result in breathing or having tactile contact with unusual micro-organisms without extraordinary risk to ones own personal health.
Ability to traverse uneven, sometimes slippery terrain, to take water samples.
Ability to develop and maintain eAective working relationships with associates and representatives of other organizations.
Ability to communicate clearly and eAectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license.
An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
