Field Trailer Systems Diagnostic Technician

Step into the field and keep trailers moving

Each day, you’ll roll out in a well-equipped service truck to troubleshoot and repair trailer systems where they work—on job sites, yards, and terminals. From precision DOT inspections to complex hydraulic and electrical diagnostics, you’ll blend craftsmanship with compliance to make sure every unit is road-ready, reliable, and safe.

What your day looks like

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain trailer systems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components in the field.
• Perform DOT inspections and ensure adherence to all applicable safety and regulatory standards.
• Execute preventative maintenance plans to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifecycle.
• Accurately document all work performed—parts used, labor hours, and vehicle condition.
• Operate and maintain the service truck safely and efficiently.
• Communicate status updates and parts needs clearly with the Service Manager and team members.
• Keep your mobile workspace clean, safe, and organized in line with company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel, trailer, or heavy equipment repair preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in trailer or heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex trailer issues quickly and accurately.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Must have or be able to obtain DOT certification.
• Proficient with diagnostic tools, shop equipment, and standard repair practices.
• Exceptional attention to detail with accurate documentation and recordkeeping.
• Self-directed with strong prioritization and time-management skills.
• Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds and working in a variety of weather conditions.
