A Field Technician III performs a variety of duties associated with hands-on functions within the telecommunications industry. They will be proficient in the troubleshooting and maintenance of various types of equipment noted. They will have a strong technical, mechanical and electrical background and be familiar and proficient around all major manufacturers of transport equipment, high voltage electrical systems, DC power plant, as well as knowledge of critical infrastructure, ISP/OSP and all associated test systems to include optical, electrical and power testing equipment associated with the telecommunications Industry. They will proficiently install, test or turn up a variety of telecommunications equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP or Ethernet based equipment with limited supervision from the team lead or manager. They also troubleshoot and handle maintenance of various types of equipment noted. The assigned shift may vary based on needs of the business and typically includes an "On-Call" shift rotation.

Responsibilities

• Performing installation and installation commissionings, troubleshooting, and handling of optical transmission systems with guidance from leadership. • Performing OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET acceptance testing. • Completing installation, decommissioning, and troubleshooting problems of network and customer services. • Providing preliminary site surveys for building entrance construction requirements and equipment space availability. • Responsible for preventable and demand maintenance of the network, critical infrastructure (commonly referred to as facilities), and materials management. • Act as a subject matter expert in our systems and applications. • Responsible for installation, labeling, cleaning, and testing of fiber optic patch cords. • Proactively seek and identify potential network problems and report these issues before becoming service affecting events. This includes action to resolve issues identified during routine preventative maintenance conducted during defined timelines. • Responsible for meeting documented objectives and goals as business needs define. • Inspecting cabinets, buried cable, construction sites, and other facilities outdoor in various environments, weather conditions, temperatures, exposed to local flora and fauna. • Operating effectively in both team and individual environments. • Act as a coach, able to provide guidance to others, assign work, and evaluate the general team performance as well as determine root cause analysis. • Participate in forums or cross-functional teams to contribute to the development of process or policy. • Conduct a daily inspection of company issued vehicle to ensure it is in a safe operating condition. • Participating in or leading conference calls or meetings related to projects and processes. • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience. High school diploma or equivalent, required. Basic telecom and/or industry safety training required. Completion of advanced telecom training a plus.

Requirements

Ability to perform a wide spectrum of complex assignments requiring alternative analysis, innovation, and judgment, while demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills. Able to perform a variety of functions with moderate to severe complexity based on the need of their assigned geographic area, operating under minimal to no supervision. Resolves problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations, using deductive reasoning skills to improve the customer experience and network performance. Ability to write routine reports, fill out documentation such as site surveys and audit reports, as well as effectively communicate with customers, management, peers, contractors, and other members of the organization. Ability to read, interpret and follow documents such as OSHA/Company safety rules, MSDS, MOPs, process and procedure documents as well as vendor documentation related to equipment owned by the company. Ability to understand, learn, and execute industrys "best practice standards" for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safekeeping of the network. Reasonable ability to work within companys systems and applications. Available to participate in on-call schedule rotation 24/7/365, dispatch, and overtime. Occasionally work long shifts with overnight travel, as necessary. Ability to sometimes work outside plant network in a given market, including metro and long-haul fibers, when needed. Must follow all personal safety policies and procedures. Maintain eligibility to operate a company issued vehicle per our policy. This includes possession of a state issued drivers license. Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Estimated Base Pay Range

Estimated base pay range for this role is $23.41 - $36.00 USD / hour.

Shift Differential Pay

Shift Differential Pay Available: Eligible non-exempt, U.S.-based roles receive additional pay for evening and overnight hours, based on role and shift assignment, in accordance with company policy.
