The Field Technician manages all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks. This role diagnoses errors or technical problems, determines proper solutions, and provides service and customer support during field visits and dispatches.
Essential Functions
- Troubleshoot and diagnose all types of equipment to ensure proper working conditions on the job site or in the shop
- Perform routine equipment clean-up, upkeep, safety reviews, and pre-delivery inspections
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, recondition, and adjust heavy equipment as required and complete all associated paperwork
- Participate in all training programs directed by the Service Manager
- Report unsafe or unserviceable tools, equipment, or vehicles to the Service Manager
- Maintain tools in good working order in accordance with MSHA and OSHA regulations
- Complete basic computer tasks including work orders, parts lookup, and email communication
- Communicate with coworkers and customers to ensure high-quality service and exceed customer expectations
- Provide service and customer support during field visits or dispatches
- Coordinate workflow according to assigned schedules
- Manage all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and testing tasks
- Produce timely and detailed service reports
- Operate vehicles safely and utilize field automation systems
- Follow all company field procedures and protocols
- Collaborate with the technical team and share information across the organization
- Understand customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations or briefings
- Build positive relationships with customers

- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment
- Proven field service experience
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment
- Must have own tools
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work flexible shifts

Work Environment
- Work is primarily conducted in construction sites, equipment yards, and transportation routes
- Regular exposure to heavy machinery and diesel-powered equipment
- Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind
- Physically demanding environment with uneven terrain, dust, mud, and loud noise levels
- Duties may involve both shop-based tasks and fieldwork, including travel to remote job sites
- Strict adherence to safety protocols is required at all times
- PPE such as steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection must be worn as required
- Must be comfortable operating around large equipment, confined spaces, or elevated positions
- Lifting heavy components and materials is often required
- Flexibility and adaptability are essential as job site conditions and priorities change rapidly
Travel Required
- Travel to various locations for training classes or seminars
- Driving to vendors to acquire parts for assigned repairs
- Several hours of driving daily to job sites may be required
Physical Demands
- High level of physical stamina and mobility required
- Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment up to 50 pounds or more
