Job Summary
The Water Utilities Field Technician is responsible for executing meter-related service requests in the field, including activations, terminations, and service interruptions. This role ensures efficient and accurate service by responding to customer requests, coordinating with office personnel, and performing physical meter operations. The technician works primarily in the field, completing assigned work across the city with limited supervision to support reliable water service delivery to residences and businesses.
Essential Job Functions
Field Operations & Meter Services:
- Turn water meters on and off based on service activation requests and terminations.
- Perform service disconnections for non-payment and process reconnections when payment is received.
- Execute emergency off orders to facilitate urgent repairs or water infrastructure maintenance.
- Verify meter conditions, ensuring proper installation and adherence to specifications.
- Conduct site inspections for potential service-related issues.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work in collaboration with office personnel to confirm service order details, maintain service level agreements, and ensure seamless service execution.
- Provide real-time updates on service completions, interruptions, and emergency responses.
- Address customer inquiries and concerns related to meter operations and service availability.
Administrative & Reporting Duties:
- Maintain detailed records of service activation, disconnection, and emergency work orders.
- Accurately document field observations and report any irregularities in water meter operation.
- Ensure compliance with municipal regulations and utility service policies.
- Regular and dependable attendance is required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of related experience required. Experience in water utility operations, field service, or meter installations preferred.
- Licenses: A valid Texas Drivers License is required. Must obtain a Class D Water Operators License within first 18 months of employment.
