Position Summary

A growing industrial automation and custom equipment manufacturer is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to support equipment installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training.

This is a highly hands-on position requiring up to 75% travel throughout North America. The technician will work at customer, vendor, and company facilities while serving as the primary onsite contact during project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform final assembly, testing, debugging, and equipment runoffs
  • Install and commission custom machinery and tooling at customer facilities
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, PLC, and equipment-related issues
  • Communicate project status, open items, and technical concerns to program management
  • Coordinate onsite activities and priorities directly with customers
  • Complete detailed service reports documenting completed work and remaining items
  • Assist engineering with equipment modifications and onsite change requests
  • Determine the time, materials, and services required to complete equipment changes
  • Support spare-parts requests, preventive maintenance, and equipment improvements
  • Train customer employees on equipment operation, setup, and maintenance
  • Track labor, materials, expenses, and project costs
  • Maintain professional communication and strong customer relationships
  • Ensure all work meets company and customer quality standards

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Specialized training in toolmaking, machine building, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field
  • Experience building, installing, commissioning, or servicing custom automated equipment
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical prints, and pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment
  • Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or similar PLC platforms
  • Ability to use computers for reporting, viewing prints, and connecting to equipment for technical support
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent communication, organization, and customer-service skills
  • Ability to work independently at customer facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree or college diploma in manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, or a related field
  • Extensive experience within automotive manufacturing, machine building, or industrial automation
  • Experience with equipment installation, startup, and customer runoffs
  • Experience supporting robotic or highly automated manufacturing systems

Travel and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 75% throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico
  • Valid U.S. passport and ability to travel internationally
  • Ability to work in active manufacturing and shop-floor environments
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, computers, and diagnostic equipment
