Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Job Description

The Field Service Engineer supports advanced manufacturing systems, software, and services for metalworking customers by providing on-site technical expertise, troubleshooting, and repairs. This role is based in the greater Philadelphia, PA area and requires extensive travel to customer facilities to ensure their equipment operates at peak productivity and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary customer support contact at client sites, diagnosing issues and executing repairs and troubleshooting on manufacturing equipment and control systems.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service by building strong internal and external relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues to foster a collaborative, teamwork-driven environment.
  • Work closely with Technical Support, Installation, Software, Sales, and Training teams to coordinate service activities and ensure seamless customer support.
  • Provide on-site and in-house customer service, and occasionally deliver remote support when needed.
  • Travel locally and out-of-state to customer sites to perform field service, equipment support, and technical assistance.
  • Support pre-sales technical activities by assisting the sales team and customers with technical questions and demonstrations related to equipment and control systems.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining up-to-date technical, interpersonal, and communication skills through continuous learning and professional development.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with PLCs, including configuration, diagnostics, and repair.
  • Attend and actively participate in sales, service, company, and customer meetings to share technical insights and stay informed on product and service updates.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4 years of experience working in the field troubleshooting PLCs and related equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC platforms such as Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, or Siemens.
  • Strong technical background and practical knowledge in electronics, mechanical systems, pneumatics, and/or hydraulics.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 100% of the time to customer sites.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC systems and their operation within manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with complex industrial machinery.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality customer service and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting metalworking manufacturing equipment and high-end industrial systems.
  • experience in field service engineering or similar customer-facing technical roles.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Technical Support, Installation, Software, Sales, and Training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain long-term customer and vendor relationships.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current with evolving technologies and service practices.
  • Comfort with frequent travel and adapting to different customer environments and requirements.

Work Environment

This role is a 100% travel position focused on servicing and supporting customers at their facilities, primarily within the Philadelphia, PA area and occasionally in other regions as needed. The Field Service Engineer works in industrial and manufacturing environments, interacting directly with CNC machinery, PLC-based control systems, and associated electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment. Work is performed at customer sites during regular business hours, with the expectation of being home most weekends, though some weekend travel may occasionally be required. The position involves hands-on technical work around active production equipment, requiring adherence to standard industrial safety practices and appropriate work attire suitable for manufacturing and field service settings.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
