Job Description

The Field Service Engineer installs, verifies, and maintains advanced automated robotic compounding equipment used in medical and pharmacy environments. This role provides technical support throughout implementation and service phases, ensuring reliable operation, high product quality, and enhanced patient safety. The Field Service Engineer works closely with project teams and customers, traveling frequently to sites across the United States and Canada to deliver exceptional service and support.

Responsibilities

  • Install and verify automated robotic compounding equipment during implementation projects, following established procedures and under the coordination of the Service Engineering function.
  • Share all relevant technical and project information with the Implementation Project Manager assigned to each installation site to ensure alignment and smooth execution.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with customers before, during, and after installation to support a positive experience and successful project outcomes.
  • Provide technical support for the transition of equipment from implementation to ongoing service, ensuring systems are ready for production use.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on installed products to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Carry out corrective maintenance and repairs on hardware and software issues as they arise, restoring equipment to proper operation as quickly as possible.
  • Execute product upgrades and modifications assigned to you, ensuring they are implemented safely and effectively.
  • Investigate complex service cases that require in-depth analysis, diagnosing root causes in both hardware and software components.
  • Propose and implement corrective, preventive, and improvement solutions based on service case findings to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
  • Support automated robotic compounding systems that contribute to improved patient safety, product quality, and better working conditions for pharmacy technicians.
  • Use office software to document service activities, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to share field insights and recommend improvements to equipment, processes, and customer support.
  • Travel regularly to customer sites across the USA and Canada to perform installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades.

Essential Skills

  • Strong technical skills in electronics and electrical systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics and automation systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of vision systems, sensors, and basic pneumatics used in automated equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve both hardware and software issues in sophisticated automated systems.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with customers, project managers, and internal teams in a clear and professional manner.
  • Proficiency with office software for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Post-secondary technical education in Automation and Robotics, or equivalent technical training.
  • Availability and willingness to travel throughout the USA, with approximately 50% travel required.
  • Motivation to work with and learn new technologies in a dynamic technical environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Additional training and experience in electronics, mechanics, and maintenance are highly valued.
  • Familiarity with the medical or pharmacy industry and its operational environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and management skills to coordinate service activities and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with customers and project stakeholders through professional communication and service.
  • Comfort working independently in the field while collaborating remotely with project and engineering teams.

Work Environment

This is a 100% remote field-based role that involves frequent travel, with approximately 50% of your time spent at customer sites. Travel will primarily be to locations in the Northeast and East Coast of the United States, with additional trips to sites in Texas, Seattle, and Vancouver (Canada). The position is well-suited to candidates based in the Northeast, East, or South regions to facilitate easier travel. You will work with advanced automated robotic compounding equipment in medical and pharmacy environments, focusing on technologies that improve patient safety, product quality, and the work experience of pharmacy technicians.
