Job Description

This role is a highly travel-focused field service position supporting industrial robots across customer sites in industries such as automotive, food and beverage, medical, and general manufacturing. You will begin by performing preventative maintenance and diagnostics on industrial robots and, over time, transition into more complex break/fix work, including troubleshooting and repairs. This position offers a structured path to develop deep expertise in industrial robotics while working directly with customers in real-world automation environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on industrial robots, including scheduled service activities.
• Conduct diagnostics, inspections, oil changes, and system data pulls on robotic systems.
• Complete detailed field service reports and accurately document all work performed and findings.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues using electrical schematics, prints, and a multimeter in an industrial or robotics environment.
• Assist with mechanical repairs, including component replacement, robot disassembly, and reassembly to restore equipment to working condition.
• Support break/fix service needs and emergency repairs as you gain experience and familiarity with the robot systems.
• Communicate daily work status, technical findings, and customer updates clearly and professionally to internal teams and field service leadership.
• Act as a customer-facing representative of the service organization and maintain professionalism in high-pressure service situations.
• Travel extensively to customer sites across the United States to support service needs and on-site work.
• Follow established service procedures and safety expectations while working in industrial environments.
• Work independently in the field, managing your schedule, tasks, and follow-up actions with minimal supervision.
• Identify equipment issues during preventative maintenance and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience working in field service, industrial robotics, or manufacturing equipment environments.
• At least 2 years of electrical troubleshooting experience, including understanding electricity, reading electrical schematics and prints, and using a multimeter to diagnose issues in industrial or robotics settings.
• At least 2 years of experience performing preventative maintenance and diagnostics, including changing oil, pulling system data, documenting findings, and completing field service reports.
• At least 2 years of mechanical aptitude and tooling experience, including using general tools, disassembling mechanical components, supporting robot maintenance, and assisting with mechanical repairs.
• Previous hands-on experience with industrial equipment, service shop work, field service, automotive automation, manufacturing equipment, or robotics systems.
• Strong written communication skills for clear and accurate field service reporting and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work directly with customers in a professional, service-oriented manner.
• Self-motivated mindset with the ability to work independently while traveling and operating in the field.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 75-80% of the time within the United States.
• Comfort working in industrial environments and around automated equipment.

Work Environment

This is a U.S.-based travel role with expected travel of approximately 75-80%. You will frequently visit customer sites that may include automotive, food and beverage, medical, and general industrial manufacturing facilities. The primary robot groups you will support include IRB and non-paint robots, with a majority being 6-axis articulated robots. Work may take place in service shops, on customer production floors, and in various industrial field service environments. Candidates should be comfortable being on the road frequently, as average weekly hours range from 47 to 52. Typically, you will not remain on the road for more than 12 consecutive days without a weekend off, although rare exceptions may extend travel up to approximately three weeks. The environment involves working around industrial automation equipment, following established safety procedures, and maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor in customer-facing settings.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
