Field Safety Specialist – Fairfax, VA/Extensive Travel
Job Summary:
The Field Safety Specialist is a field‑based role responsible for conducting in‑person assessments related to child and family safety and well‑being. This position focuses on observing conditions in varied environments, interacting professionally and respectfully with individuals and families, identifying potential concerns, and completing accurate documentation in accordance with established standards and guidelines. The role requires strong judgment, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work independently while managing sensitive information. The Field Safety Specialist must be adaptable, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in dynamic field settings that require travel and flexibility.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Conduct in‑person field visits to observe environments and assess general safety and wellness
Engage respectfully and professionally with individuals and families during onsite visits
Identify, document, and report potential safety or welfare concerns in accordance with established procedures
Verify required information related to household circumstances and care arrangements
Prepare clear, accurate, and timely written documentation following field activities
Maintain situational awareness and adhere to safety guidelines while in the field and during travel
Communicate professionally and effectively with supervisors and team members
Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity
Travel regularly to assigned locations, including travel that may occur on short notice
Adapt to varying schedules, environments, and field conditions
Perform additional duties as assigned in support of operational needs
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution
US Citizenship required
Associate degree with two (2) or more years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with four (4) or more years of relevant experience, may be substituted
Minimum two (2) years of experience in social services, case management, human‑centered services, criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, detention, or related fields
Bilingual proficiency required: English and Spanish (speak, read, and write)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the United States
Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or be in the process of obtaining one
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Ability to meet travel and insurance requirements
Strong computer skills including basic office software and mobile technology
Work Environment & Schedule
Field‑based position requiring regular/extensive domestic travel
Work is conducted in varied environments, including private residences
Schedule may include non‑traditional hours, including evenings or holidays, based on operational needs
Weekend travel may be required
Role involves standing, walking, carrying equipment, and extended time in the field
Flexibility and adaptability are essential
Required to make home visits 7 days per week; 8 AM - 7 PM
Clearance:
The applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may be required to meet the following conditions of employment
Security Requirements:
Ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
Successfully pass a background investigation, drug screen.
