Urban Engineers is seeking an experienced, proactive Field Safety Manager to lead and support safety efforts across active job sites. This role is critical to building and sustaining a strong safety culture through field presence, real-time hazard identification, and close collaboration with project teams, field leadership and staff. The ideal candidate brings hands-on construction or engineering field safety experience, strong observational skills, and the ability to coach and influence safe behaviors at all levels.

This position is highly field-focused and requires regular travel throughout the tri-state area to support multiple project locations. The Field Safety Manager will partner closely with operations, project management, construction management, and executive leadership to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Documentation, Reporting and Training

  • Develop and maintain field safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assist Project Managers and Constructions Manager to prepare project specific safety plans.
  • Plan and conduct regular site safety inspections and hazard assessment.
  • Prepare written and digital inspection summaries, safety alerts, and trend analyses for leadership.
  • Maintaining accurate safety records and documentation for audits, clients, and regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA 300 logs).
  • Monitor and maintain company data in risk management software for company qualification (e.g., ISNetworld)
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs.
  • Support continuous improvement of safety processes and reporting methods.

Field Coaching & Safety Support
  • Provide real-time coaching and guidance to project managers, construction managers, and field personnel on safe work practices and proper use and inspection of PPE.
  • Assist field staff with job hazard analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning.
  • Participate in site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and daily huddles, as appropriate, to reinforce safety expectations and promote accountability.

Field Safety Oversight & Execution
  • Oversee job site safety compliance (OSHA, state, client, and company requirements)
  • Serve as the primary safety resource for assigned project sites and field operations.
  • Conduct and document regular, in-person safety inspections across active job sites.
  • Identify project site hazards and determine corrective action requirements.
  • Verify consistent implementation of fall protection, PPE, and applicable safety procedures.

Hazard Identification & Corrective Action Management
  • Identify and communicate safety deficiencies to the project manager and construction manager per project reporting requirements, ensuring understanding of risk level and corrective expectations.
  • Track corrective actions from identification through resolution and verify completion.
  • Utilize safety reporting tools, mobile applications, and digital reporting platforms to log inspections, analyze trends, and generate reports.

Incident Prevention, Investigation & Response
  • Lead and document incident investigations and corrective action.
  • Analyze trends and assist in developing corrective and preventive measures to reduce future risk.
  • Respond to safety concerns raised by employees, managers, or clients in a timely and professional manner.

Compliance & Regulatory Support
  • Serve as a safety resource for project managers, construction managers, field personnel, and management.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards, client safety requirements, and applicable state and local safety regulations.
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and client safety requirements as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-10 years of experience in construction, engineering, safety, or a related field.
  • OSHA 30 certification required (current within 5 years).
  • Degree or certification in Safety Management, Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA Construction standards.
  • Proven ability to identify hazards and implement practical, real-world safety solutions.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Confident, professional communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively with field staff, resident engineers, construction managers, and office personnel.
  • Comfortable using technology, including digital reporting platforms, Teams, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments.
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the tri-state area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily field-based and requires regular travel to active job sites. This role may involve working extended hours or evening or overnight shifts. The role involves walking job sites, climbing stairs or ladders as needed, and working in varying weather and site conditions. Proper PPE is required at all times while on job sites.
