Field Service / Repair Technician

Join Hayes Group, a leading industrial, commercial, and municipal pump distributor in the Northeast, as a Field Service/Repair Technician. This role is ideal for a mechanically skilled, customer-focused professional who enjoys problem-solving, working independently, and delivering high-quality service in the field and shop environments.

As a Field Service/Repair Technician, you will serve as a trusted technical resource for customers by evaluating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and commissioning pump systems and related equipment. You will represent Hayes Group on-site and play a key role in delivering exceptional service and building long-term customer relationships.

Hayes Group provides a company vehicle and specialty application tools to support field work. Technicians provide their own daily-use hand tools.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Represent Hayes Group professionally and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Travel daily to customer locations to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair pumps and related systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and emergency service work at customer sites.
  • Support equipment start-ups, commissioning activities, and operational programming.
  • Evaluate pump equipment in the shop and prepare repair recommendations and estimates.
  • Complete repairs and rebuilds in the shop environment as needed.
  • Accurately document work performed and complete service reports using company systems and CRM tools.
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in rotating on-call and after-hours service support.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company safety standards and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school education preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience interacting directly with customers in a professional environment.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic computer skills including email, reporting systems, and internet use.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined or industrial environments.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety practices (OSHA 10 preferred).

Preferred

  • Five or more years of field service or repair experience with commercial or municipal pump systems.
  • Experience servicing centrifugal and positive displacement pumps including rotary lobe, progressive cavity, diaphragm, and metering pumps.
  • Experience with manufacturers such as Goulds, Xylem, Gorman-Rupp, Fairbanks Morse, Grundfos, Viking, and Aurora.
  • Knowledge of electrical controls and wiring.
  • Ability to travel overnight as needed.
