Position Specific Description

Join the worlds leading generator of wind energy as a High Voltage Technician at NextEra Energy. As a Field Operations High Voltage Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our high voltage electrical systems. You will assist in the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of high voltage equipment and infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the inspection and maintenance of high voltage equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Collaborating with senior technicians to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults and failures within the high voltage system.
  • Conducting routine tests and measurements on high voltage equipment, accurately interpreting and documenting the results.
  • Assisting in the commissioning of new high voltage equipment, adhering to engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Participating in the scheduling and coordination of maintenance activities, minimizing disruption to the electrical systems operation.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance and condition of high voltage equipment, promptly reporting any abnormalities or potential issues.
  • Assisting in the repair and replacement of faulty high voltage components, ensuring timely restoration of power supply.
  • Following established safety protocols and procedures while working with high voltage equipment, minimizing risks to yourself and others.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, repairs, and spare parts inventory.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in high voltage technology through continuous learning and professional development.

In this role, the employee would be responsible for limited overnight or regional travel to sites as designated by your leader.

Job Overview

This senior-level technical position provides expertise in the areas of transmission/substation operations, collection system construction and maintenance, transmission and substation maintenance, and troubleshooting. Additional responsibilities may include the support of senior-level technicians in project management and contractor oversite within a specified geographical region while ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to the power grid. This position requires less than 10% supervision and work oversight.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work in the construction and maintenance of all substation, transmission, and collection system equipment
  • Work with data communication equipment
  • Report and coordinate emergency response and repair to all high voltage equipment and systems within an assigned geographical area with resources from Energy Resource Control Center and Technical Services
  • Establish and maintain high voltage inventory, equipment, and vehicles within an assigned geographical area according to company safety and maintenance standards
  • Perform routine work on assigned tasks with corporate, regional, and cross-functional assets and resources
  • Maintain compliance and non-compliance maintenance tasks and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, and market requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, and leverage assets and resources to accomplish assigned work
  • Complete Yellow Belt certification and coach others through the company quality process
  • Maintain adherence to the company safety culture, policies, and process while meeting all safety targets
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Experience: 4+ years
  • Valid Drivers License (NON-CDL)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree
  • Commercial Drivers License
