Position Summary |
The role of the Field Installer is to travel to domestic and international locations to assist Welarco Fabrications, Inc. and Philippi-Hagenbuch, Inc. ("PHIL") in completing product installations, warranties, and scanning. This role will also assist in installations as they occur at the Welarco Fabrications, Inc. ("Welarco") facility location in Peoria, IL. Field Installers will serve an additional role (e.g. Welder) to Welarco when field work is unavailable.
Management Duties |
The Field Installer is responsible for independently managing varied tasks and projects. This position is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities assigned to this role, so long as such action does not deviate from the established Company policy and is consistent with sound business judgment and ethical practices. While working in the field, if a major issue or concern comes up, the Field Installer is expected to stop work, send pictures of the issue to management and call to work out a solution.
Duties and Responsibilities |
01 | Travels to customer locations for a variety of purposes including: to install purchased equipment or parts, address warranties, scan existing trucks for OEM information |
02 | Works with the Engineering Department, Sales Department, and additional management to determine trip objectives |
03 | Completes and submits daily log of time, challenges, accomplishments, etc. |
04 | Communicates all challenges back to the office in a timely fashion |
05 | Accurately clocks to jobs for job costing data in the Finance Department to assist the price quoting process |
06 | Maintains all equipment and tools |
07 | Welds from all positions, e.g. flat, vertical, overhead |
08 | Visually inspects work, grind and rework as needed and requested to meet Company quality standards |
09 | Makes any necessary modifications to design |
10 | Alerts Production Manager of any discrepancies on Engineering prints initially |
11 | Assists in documenting any adjustments to Engineering prints |
12 | Reports any inventory shortfalls to Production Manager |
13 | Completes daily pickup of area and remains responsible for cleanliness of work area |
14 | Completes material handling functions as needed, e.g. bringing materials into the building, operating a fork truck |
15 | Always adheres to all safety protocols including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) |
16 | Assists the Finance Department with allocating timekeeping to job codes, operations, work centers, etc. |
17 | Requests and attends meetings with PHIL and Welarco associates as necessary to review issues that arise in the field, e.g. design changes |
18 | Assists in training and developing additional associates to complete field work |
19 | Works to best of ability to provide the customer with an above-satisfactory and professional interaction |
20 | Actively listens to all customer concerns and works to resolve them |
21 | Maintains a working electrical and hydraulic knowledge |
22 | Seeks additional help from the Production Manager as necessary |
During Product Installations:
01 | Assists the provided crew in answering questions and providing installation instruction |
02 | Remains actively involved and hands-on in the installation |
03 | Assists the crew in laying out the purchased equipment or parts, assembling, and welding |
04 | Unless discussed with management, stays for the completion of the installation project |
05 | Ensures all questions and concerns are resolved |
06 | Provides the customer with a form to submit installation feedback |
07 | If a fabricator is involved, ensures that the fabricator completes daily time sheets |
During Product Warranties:
01 | Asks appropriate questions to Welarco's Production Department and PHIL's Engineering and Sales Departments as needed to become well-versed in the project and potential problems |
02 | Works with PHIL and Welarco management to determine a plan of action for warranty issues |
03 | Quickly and accurately corrects warranty issues |
04 | Continually provides updates to PHIL and Welarco management |
05 | Ensures all questions and concerns are resolved |
During Scanning Trips:
01 | Uses FARO 3D-measurement scanning equipment and additional tools to retrieve OEM dimensions for the Engineering Department |
02 | Ensures FARO equipment is always properly handled and stored |
03 | Ensures FARO equipment is checked out and in from the Engineering Department with the proper documentation |
04 | Collaborates with the Engineering Department to ensure the FARO equipment is properly insured while travelling |

Qualifications and Requirements |
01 | High school diploma or general education equivalent |
02 | Two-year maintenance or welding degree PLUS 3+ years of relevant experience OR High-school welding program with 3+ years of relevant experience OR 8+ years of applicable experience |
03 | Availability to accommodate frequent travel, both domestically and internationally, with and without advanced notice |
04 | Ability to meet the physical and mental qualifications of the position with or without reasonable accommodation |
05 | Availability to work standard hours and overtime as outlined in job offer |
06 | Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality when dealing with privileged information |
07 | Must demonstrate print and welding ability |
08 | Ability to always represent the Company in a polite, friendly, and professional manner |
