Field Hockey Instructor/Coach Salary $16.00 - $26.00 Hourly Location Columbia, MD Job Type Contingent Job Number 9994-07152022 Department Recreation & Parks Opening Date 07/15/2022 Closing Date Continuous Description Benefits Questions POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Coach and instruct the field hockey clinics in the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons that are offered to youth participants of all ages. DUTIES: Assist in the organization and supervision of the field hockey clinics.Provide written reports and attend scheduled meetings as required. Set up and take down program equipment. Assist in coordinating daily lesson plans to show progression of skill.Maintain positive communication with parents, school staff, the public and Sports CoordinatorResponsible for the safety and general welfare of the program and participants.Must satisfy requirements of the Recreation and Parks Coaches Registry upon employment and prior to being scheduled by supervisor. Coaches Registry requirements include completion of the American Sport Education Program and recommended Concussions in Youth Sport exams.SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: (Must be at least 16 years old)Sound philosophy of coaching and teaching with emphasis on fun and development of skills.Personal skills in sport activities specific to position.Ability to demonstrate sports skills, give positive and effective feedback to participants and parents.Ability to teach sports skills to youth participants in age appropriate settings.Ability to teach sports skills with introductions, demonstrations, verbal instructions and to give positive and effective feedback to participants and parents.Knowledge of age and ability adaptations for activities to ensure equal participation and success.Ability to communicate and gain control over a large group of children.EXPERIENCE:Leader I: Participation in field hockey, some background working with children's programs. Meets Coaches Registry requirements.Leader II: Knowledge of sports skills specific to position, background in coaching sports skills and/or leading children's activities, CPR and First Aid certified.Leader III: Relevant specialized experience and/or holds a certification in their respective sports. EDUCATION: Course work specific to Recreation and/or Physical Education. RATE OF PAY: Contingent - Salary commensurate with experience and certificationLeader I: Minimum Wage to $16/hr.
