Field Electrical Engineer

Remote (California Based) | 75% Travel Across the U.S.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Field Electrical Engineer to support the construction, testing, commissioning, and energization of electrical infrastructure projects nationwide. Acting as the Owner"s Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring electrical systems are installed safely, tested thoroughly, and prepared for successful energization.

Projects may include commercial EV charging infrastructure, facility power upgrades, medium-voltage distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, protective relays, and other critical power system components.

This position is fully remote when not traveling to project sites and requires approximately 75% travel throughout the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Owner"s Representative during construction, testing, commissioning, and energization activities.

  • Perform field inspections and construction quality assurance reviews to verify compliance with project specifications, design standards, and electrical codes.

  • Oversee testing and commissioning activities performed by NETA-certified testing firms and electrical contractors.

  • Review and evaluate electrical testing results for transformers, power cables, protective relays, switchgear, and related equipment.

  • Identify installation deficiencies, code compliance concerns, and potential energization barriers.

  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of power system equipment, including:

  • Transformers

  • Switchgear

  • Protective relays

  • Circuit breakers

  • Automatic transfer switches (ATS)

  • Develop punch lists, corrective action recommendations, and detailed field reports.

  • Coordinate with contractors, project managers, testing vendors, and client stakeholders to facilitate issue resolution and project completion.

  • Communicate technical findings, project status updates, risks, and recommendations through written reports and stakeholder meetings.

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence on all project sites.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Field engineering

  • Electrical testing and commissioning

  • Power system maintenance

  • Electrical construction oversight

  • Experience working with low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems.

  • Ability to interpret electrical test data and assess system readiness for energization.

  • Working knowledge of NETA standards, acceptance testing procedures, and commissioning best practices.

  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and root cause analysis capabilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Bluebeam, and related project documentation tools.

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States (approximately 75%).

Preferred

  • Experience supporting utility, renewable energy, EV charging infrastructure, or industrial power projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical protection and control systems.
  • Previous experience serving as an Owner"s Representative or Owner"s Engineer.
  • NETA, PE, EIT, or other industry certifications are a plus.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $75.00/hr.
