JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.

JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under general supervision of a senior-level engineer, a Field Engineer II performs a variety of fundamental field engineering tasks involved in the installation, operations, testing, and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems. 

Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties: 

  • Function as the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a variety of threat systems such as UMTE, JTE, Mini-MUTES, and other range systems as developed.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance for systems across both the Northern and Southern Ranges.
  • Conduct site visits to investigate and analyze system faults or anomalies.
  • Propose solutions or alternatives to restore systems to operation.
  • Coordinate with the Annex 2 Maintenance Manager to determine maintenance and troubleshooting priorities.
  • Work with Annex 2 Engineering, system vendors, Systems Program Office (SPO), and Depot personnel during system troubleshooting, upgrades, etc.
  • Provide continuity of maintenance practices and processes across O&M ranges.
  • Train and mentor technicians across O&M ranges.
  • Keep informed of current operational conditions.
  • Assist with maintenance reporting, technical studies, or correspondence.
  • Periodic travel required to the Northern Ranges to support maintenance and training as necessary.
  • Independent judgment will be exercised in performing tasks and a professional attitude will be required in directly interfacing with internal and external customers and vendor
  • Equipment repair will require knowledge and use of test equipment such as signal generators, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, protocol analyzers, multimeters, transmission measuring sets, data analyzers, RF spectrum analyzers, and RF power meters.
  • Proficient in use of personal computers is required for maintenance and configuration of processor based equipment.
  • The ability to convey ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner is required.
  • Compliance with safety and security procedures is mandatory.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

An associate's degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or formal academic/vocational/military training and a minimum of 7 years of technical/professional experience in the specialty field are required for this position.

In addition, a Field Engineer II must possess the following qualifications:

  • Professional knowledge of applicable engineering concepts and principles and familiarity with related engineering fields
  • Practical knowledge of test methods and practices sufficient to perform routine to more complex engineering procedures and to prepare or make minor modifications of standard test procedures or test equipment work instructions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • In addition, must have a comprehensive knowledge in general electronics, and demonstrated expertise in electronic, electro-mechanical, and computer systems and the test equipment used to maintain and repair equipment.
  • Must have experience with tubes, transistors, logic gates, and high-power RF devices, and expert-level troubleshooting and soldering capabilities.

SALARY

The expected salary range for this position is $77,000 to $110,000 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Employee will be required to work some shift work, at remote locations, and occasional over-night assignments.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet. Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces. Outdoor duties may be performed on gravel or shingled roof. Climbing stairs, ladders, towers, and scaffolds, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., (anything heavier requires two or more people or mechanical assistance) are required. A government vehicle is used on an as-needed basis.
