About the Opportunity

A well-established heavy civil contractor specializing in large-scale public infrastructure and transportation projects is seeking a Field Engineer II to support a major Southern California transportation project.

This role is ideal for a field-driven engineer who thrives in complex, high-visibility environments and wants to continue building technical depth, cost awareness, and leadership capability on major infrastructure work. Candidates at the Field Engineer I level with strong fundamentals and readiness for expanded responsibility may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to support daily project execution

  • Coordinate and track material deliveries; verify quantity, quality, and contract compliance

  • Assist with subcontractor coordination, contract administration, and scope tracking

  • Support development and maintenance of project schedules and look-ahead planning

  • Manage shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals; maintain accurate logs and documentation

  • Participate in cost tracking, quantity takeoffs, and construction cost analysis

  • Assist with monthly pay estimates, forecasting, and cost accruals

  • Support change order pricing, documentation, and review as directed

  • Maintain compliance with project procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Split time between field operations and project office responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 3+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (Field Engineer II level preferred)

  • Experience in public works or transportation projects required

  • Solid understanding of construction means and methods

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams

  • Comfortable working in both field and office environments under active construction conditions
