Job Description

Job Title: Field As Bulit's Specialist

Department: Operations

Reports to: Division Manager

FLSA: Exempt

PURPOSE: Assist Project Engineer on organizing, coordinating, and managing onsite construction engineering activities for large, extensive projects. Key technical person on projects. May be responsible for more than one project.

Over the past numerous years, customers throughout Southern California territory have come to rely on Doty Bros Construction for their electrical utility construction services. 13 years ago, when the Meruelo Group Enterprises began to build this new division, they used the same simple philosophy - do it right the first time, every time. Today, Doty Bros Construction still follows this same philosophy.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who enjoy the challenge of working on projects in the growing civil construction industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage project engineering and related personnel functions and activities. Includes personnel planning and administration, and work assignments.

Ensures project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and supports overall construction schedule.

Provides technical support for construction efforts including participation in construction planning and design; interpretation of design; application of construction methods; resolution and documentation of design conflicts; constructability reviews, etc.

Follows all requirements of the company's safety program. Takes personal responsibility for safety in working environment. Promotes safety among peers, subordinates and supervisors.

Record all changes made during construction that differ from the original design.

Modify design drawings to reflect field changes.

Ensure revisions are clear, accurate, and follow drafting standards.

Organize all markups, sketches, RFIs, and change orders that impact the As-Builts.

Produce final As-Built drawings in required formats (PDF, CAD, BIM)

Walk the site to confirm tasks are actually completed.

Check quality and compliance with plans/specs.

Review, update, and maintain construction redline drawings based on field changes and contractor markups

Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to verify design modifications

Ensure all revisions are accurately documented and aligned with project specifications

Track and organize redline versions for multiple projects during acquisition and execution phases

Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and final documentation packages

Identify discrepancies between design plans and field conditions and escalate as needed

Support due diligence activities during acquisition by reviewing existing construction documentation

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Minimum 3 years of similar construction engineering experience

Experience in construction documentation, drafting, or engineering support

Proficiency with PDF, Blue Beam software and document management systems

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to interpret construction drawings and technical specifications

Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration

Preferred Skills: • Background in civil, structural, or architectural projects • Familiarity with construction project lifecycles and acquisition processes • Experience working with contractors and field teams

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and ensures accuracy in technical documentation that supports successful project acquisition and delivery.

LICENSE: Possess or ability to obtain a valid Class C California drivers license

SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: · Knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes standards, etc., plus an in depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional unities required. · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines. Registration as a Professional Engineer is valuable. · Working conditions consist of temperature-controlled buildings or offices, outside elements such as rain, cold, and heat when working with in open environments, driving from various locations or attending meetings, etc. Noise levels are moderate to loud depending on work location.
