Field Application Engineer (FAE)

Step into the role of a difference-maker-someone who doesn't just support technology but brings it to life. You will ignite technical engagement and fuel application growth for cutting-edge electrical connection systems in the automotive world. Every day is an opportunity to connect, to influence, and to solve real challenges alongside customers, sales, product management, and engineering teams.

Be the voice of innovation. Be the expert people trust. Discover what customers truly need, champion powerful Molex solutions, and drive them all the way into design wins that shape the future of mobility.

Own the journey of new product introductions-from that very first spark of discovery to the moment of technical validation. You will guide, inspire, and lead these opportunities forward, setting them up for success and handing them off for commercial victory. This is more than a role-it's your chance to lead, to impact, and to leave your mark on the evolution of automotive technology.

Our Team

This role supports global standard products within Molex's Transportation Business Unit and is a key member of the NPI growth team alongside Product Management Business Development, and Sales.

What Will You Do

Technical Customer Engagement & Opportunity Development

  • Serve as the technical expert for Molex NPI products and solutions within targeted automotive applications.
  • Identify and technically qualify new customer opportunities through direct engagement with OEMs, Tier suppliers, and ecosystem partners.
  • Understand customer pain points, challenges, and future architecture trends through strong industry intimacy and application knowledge.
  • Translate customer technical requirements into solution recommendations and collaborate with product management and engineering teams on product fit and gaps.
  • Drive technical alignment and help achieve print position within customer applications and specifications.
  • Support customer discovery activities including technical workshops, design reviews, application troubleshooting, and prototype evaluations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support during customer development cycles and validation activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Global Product Managers, Business Development Managers, Sales, and Product Engineering to support growth initiatives.
  • Support development and execution of go-to-market strategies for new product introductions.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to transition technically qualified opportunities into commercial closure.
  • Provide field feedback regarding market trends, competitive positioning, application challenges, and emerging customer needs.
  • Assist in identifying gaps in current product offerings and support development of future roadmap opportunities.

Technical Leadership & Market Support

  • Develop and deliver technical product trainings, demonstrations, and customer presentations.
  • Create technical collateral including application notes, solution overviews, and competitive positioning materials.
  • Support trade shows, customer visits, and industry events as a technical representative for the business.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of vehicle electrical architectures, interconnect systems, and automotive market trends.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues related to customer applications and product implementation.

Requirements, Preferences, and the Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive engineering, field applications engineering, product engineering, technical sales, or related technical customer-facing roles.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical architectures, connection systems, and customer development processes.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to dissect complex customer challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across product management, engineering, sales, and manufacturing organizations.
  • Experience working directly with OEMs and Tier suppliers is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations for technical engagement and support activities.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience supporting technical opportunity development and achieving design-in / print position is a plus.

Role Alignment within the NPI Growth Team

The FAE role is primarily responsible for technical hunting of opportunities, customer discovery, solution alignment, and securing technical acceptance within target applications. The role complements Product Management ownership of portfolio strategy and Business Development ownership of commercial strategy execution.
