About the Role:

As a Fiber Test and Measurement Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and performance of our fiber network infrastructure. In this role, you will perform fiber characterization and testing in the field to confirm network facilities meet customer and company standards. You will use specialized equipment such as OTDRs, light source/power meters, and fiber microscopes to inspect, test, and validate fiber connections. This position is also responsible for documenting test results, verifying loss and reflectance levels, and supporting fiber construction, service turn-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities to ensure reliable network performance.

What Youll Do:

  • Perform fiber characterization tests (Uni-directional & Bi-directional OTDR, LOSS, CD/PMD).
  • Interpret/analyze all test data obtained in the field to identify issues and collaborate with other team members and/or departments for resolution.
  • Compile test data, upload results real-time and generate reports using Fast Reporter and/or TRM.
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber plants utilizing CWDM/DWDM technology.
  • Perform in-field fusion splicing of cable and connectors.
  • Create and follow Methods of Procedure (MOP's) as required.
  • Support other test technicians in the field with real-time analysis and guidance.

Do You Have:

  • Knowledge of optical fiber standards (TIA/EIA).
  • Google Earth proficiency.
  • Optical transmission bands (O-Band, C-Band, L-Band) and the associated wavelengths knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of Insertion Loss and ORL.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud based database (Salesforce, Dropbox, SharePoint).
  • Strong knowledge of vendor cloud based software platforms (Test Flow, AEROS, etc.)
  • Proficient with the use of computers and associated software (MS Office Excel/Word, Outlook, Visio, Adobe).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, maps, as-builts, etc.
  • Understanding dispersion and how it affects the signal transmission across fiber.
  • Understanding of Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM, DWDM).
  • Proficient in the operation of test equipment including but not limited to OTDR, OLTS, Power Meter, VFL and Scope.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of optical fiber type/core (SMF, MMF).
  • Willingness to travel throughout network footprint (>50%) and often on short notice.
