We are seeking a Fiber Engineer with strong experience in fiber network design, routing, inside plant fiber assignment, and capacity planning. This role is part of a regional engineering team responsible for creating and maintaining fiber design maps, assigning fiber routes, supporting construction projects, and coordinating network augmentation work.
This role is not construction management / field build / OSP-focused. We are specifically looking for candidates with inside plant fiber design and allocation experience.
Participate in project kick-off meetings for new fiber builds (backbone, lateral, riser).
Design backbone and lateral fiber routes and create fiber design maps (A-to-Z).
Assign fiber through inside plant demarcation panels and provide direction to Construction teams.
Create requisitions and manage vendor PO approval workflows.
Submit change management documentation and follow proper field execution procedures.
Provide final engineering deliverables including DLRs, fiber assignment records, and test documentation.
Close out projects in appropriate systems and validate documentation accuracy.
Review and approve vendor invoices associated with assigned projects.
Coordinate daily with Fiber Construction Managers and field personnel.
Create and manage work orders for expansion and overbuild initiatives.
Analyze network capacity reports and plan augments for heavily utilized fiber routes.
Participate in on-call rotation for fiber outages and emergency response.
Work with NOC and Field Operations to isolate, dispatch, and restore fiber impairments.
Maintain accurate and current network records across internal systems.
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
1+ years of fiber engineering, network design, fiber assignment, or construction support experience.
Experience with inside plant fiber layouts, panels, and demarcation practices.
Familiarity with GIS-based mapping, fiber path design documentation, and records management.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred
Associate's degree or technical degree; Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, Construction, or related Engineering field strongly preferred.
Experience with outside plant (OSP) construction methods (aerial/underground) is beneficial.
Working knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, and internal tracking tools.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, yet collaborate effectively with Engineering, Construction, and Operations teams.
Positive, proactive approach to problem-solving.
PMP certification is a plus, but not required.
You will be successful in this role if you:
Have hands-on fiber assignment / ISP routing experience.
Can interpret fiber maps, splice diagrams, and capacity charts.
Enjoy coordinating across engineering, field operations, and provisioning teams.
Are detail-driven and thrive in a structured but fast-paced environment.
