Sampson Regional Medical Center is seeking a BC/BE Family Medicine physician (MD or DO) to serve as Associate Program Director for our Family Medicine Residency Program. This role combines academic leadership, resident mentorship, and clinical practice in a supportive, community-focused, independent hospital environment.

Schedule & Responsibilities

  • Teaching/Preceptorship: ~80%

  • Clinical Practice: ~20% (outpatient continuity clinic, 1 day/week)

  • Inpatient Hospital Rotation: 1 week/month supervising Family Medicine inpatient service

  • Leadership duties: resident mentorship, curriculum oversight, ACGME compliance, program development

  • Participate in recruitment, interviews, and resident selection

  • Maintain clinical practice consistent with ACGME guidelines


Support & Leadership

  • Collaborate with Program Director and hospital leadership

  • Mentor residents in clinical and academic settings

  • Promote resident well-being, professional growth, and compassionate care

  • Access to hospital specialties: General Surgery, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Primary Care, and Urology


Candidate Qualifications

  • BC/BE in Family Medicine (ABFM or AOBFP)

  • Core faculty experience required

  • Experience in inpatient and outpatient care

  • Comfortable with obstetrics, joint injections, and dermatologic procedures

  • Knowledge of ACGME accreditation requirements

  • Demonstrated academic involvement: teaching, curriculum development, or research

  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills

  • Passion for community-based medicine and rural/underserved populations
