Job Description
- Support an attorney throughout all phases of family law litigation, including divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, domestic violence, contempt, and post-judgment matters.
- Draft, review, and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, settlement agreements, financial affidavits, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Prepare and electronically file court documents while ensuring compliance with applicable court rules and filing deadlines.
- Manage attorney calendars, court appearances, mediation schedules, hearings, discovery deadlines, and case timelines.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients by providing professional communication and timely case updates.
- Organize, review, and summarize financial records, tax returns, bank statements, business records, and other case-related documents.
- Coordinate discovery, document production, depositions, subpoenas, expert witnesses, and litigation support activities.
- Prepare hearing notebooks, trial binders, exhibits, witness files, and mediation materials.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical case files while monitoring case progress and proactively managing deadlines.
- Collaborate with attorneys, clients, court personnel, mediators, experts, and opposing counsel to keep matters moving efficiently.
- Record billable time accurately and assist with additional case management and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of Family Law Paralegal experience required.
- Strong experience supporting family law litigation matters from beginning to end.
- Experience preparing legal pleadings, discovery, motions, subpoenas, and court filings.
- Excellent organizational, drafting, proofreading, and case management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple active cases while meeting competing deadlines.
- Professional communication skills with a strong client-service mindset.
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.
- Experience with Washington, DC family law procedures is a plus.
