The Family and School Support Specialist is responsible for providing intensive support, consultation, behavioral coaching, and crisis intervention services to children and families, in their home, school, and community settings. This position serves clients in our Community Based Services program, and primarily focuses on safety planning, home stabilization, community resourcing, home structure and routine, and behavioral interventions for both the individual child and their caregivers.

Community-based staff work five 8-hour shifts/week and are expected to dedicate a minimum of 60% of their working time delivering face-to-face services to clients. The remaining time is allotted for driving, meetings, and documentation. Daily schedules are flexible but require availability in the evenings and at least one weekend day/week. Agency vehicles are provided, as well as all remote technology necessary for the position.

Essential Job Functions

Provide support, behavioral coaching, and interventions that focus on building child and caregiver’s competencies in the home, school and/or other community locations
Form a positive rapport with children and families; provide behavior management consultation, parent or life-skills training, and general support based on empowerment, strength-based and solution-focused frameworks
Serve as a CYMHTA Family Advocate and Family Systems Navigator to support families through CYMHTA, SSI, and SSDI application processes
Complete documentation of all direct services provided to or for clients within 24 hours; complete any other required forms of paperwork within expected timelines set by the agency and/or funding sources
Provide feedback to clinicians to assist with the development of the treatment plan goals and objectives
Conduct behavioral health sessions with clients and families based on the goals and objectives outlined in the treatment plan
Maintain working knowledge of community resources, including food and clothing banks, educational support services, job training, and recreational programs; assist and support families in accessing community resources
Provide behavior management consultation and regular on-going support to school classrooms for applicable cases; this includes individual support to students, behavioral consultation to teachers and school staff, crisis intervention, or other specific services requested to assist students and families
Form positive work alliances with representatives of community agencies including schools, mental health, social services, probation and others
Maintain open communication with other treatment team members to ensure congruency in services
Participate in required meetings including group and individual supervision, IEP meetings for clients, re-entry or school transition meetings for clients, and case staffings, among others
Meet weekly direct service hours goals
Transport children & families when therapeutically indicated
Attend scheduled internal trainings and participate in continuing education and professional development to increase levels of expertise, areas of specialization, and professional goals

Other Job Functions

Maintain the highest standard of cultural competency in all dealings with clients and staff
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement agency policies, procedures, SPB’s, collateral policies, and COA’s guidelines
Supports and advances quality improvement efforts through adherence to Tennyson Center policies and procedures, regulator standards, and best practices
Other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Direct care staff are required to be able to perform physical restraints or containments, as necessary. Clients are age range 5-18.
Assume a restraint for periods of time varying from 5-30 minutes.

Working Conditions

This position requires driving a company vehicle and visiting clients in their homes.

Minimum Qualifications

B.A. in Human Services or related field preferred
Prior experience (2-3 years preferred) working with children and families
Training and demonstrated skills in crisis intervention
Strong knowledge, understanding and experience of common issues encountered when working with children with disabilities and/or trauma, and their families
Must have strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, strong communication and coordination skills, and the ability to make safe and ethical decisions when working with kids and families
Strong boundaries related to therapeutic relationships and schedules
Ability to schedule appointments during evenings and weekends; all full-time community-based staff work a Sun-Th or Tues-Sat schedule
All candidates must have or qualify to obtain a current Colorado driver’s license (Must obtain license within 30 days of employment)
