POSITION: Family & Community Engagement Specialist (Christina Wilmington Schools)

The Christina School District seeks a dynamic and collaborative Family Engagement Specialist who is committed to building strong partnerships among families, schools, and the community to improve student outcomes. The Family Engagement Specialist serves as a liaison between home and school, ensuring that parents, caregivers, and families are valued as essential partners in every student's educational journey.

Working collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, counselors, social workers, community agencies, and district staff, the Family Engagement Specialist develops and implements initiatives that increase family engagement, remove barriers to student success, and promote equitable access to educational opportunities and support services. This position supports the District's mission of improving student outcomes by fostering meaningful relationships built on Clarity, Commitment, Caring, and Collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Counseling, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years (5) of successful experience implementing/coordinating family engagement initiatives in public k â 12 education.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with families, schools, community organizations, or youth-serving agencies.

MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month position

START DATE: Mutually Agreeable

Fringe Benefits: Twenty-four (24) days vacation per fiscal year; Life Insurance; Health Insurance; Benefit Stipend to assist with the cost of prescription, vision and/or dental insurance.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement districtwide family engagement initiatives that align with the Christina School District Strategic Plan and Family & Community Engagement Policy.
  • Promote authentic partnerships between families, schools, and community organizations to support student achievement, attendance, well-being, and school success.
  • Serve as the district liaison for parents, caregivers, and families by providing guidance, resources, and support regarding district programs, policies, and services.
  • Coordinate district family engagement events, workshops, and educational opportunities that strengthen the home-school partnership.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and staff to increase family participation in school improvement efforts and student learning.
  • Support schools in implementing culturally responsive and inclusive family engagement practices that honor the diversity of Christina School District families.
  • Assist families in navigating enrollment, attendance, student support services, special education processes, multilingual learner services, and other district programs.
  • Identify barriers that may prevent family engagement and develop strategies to increase access and participation for all families.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts for students experiencing chronic absenteeism, academic concerns, behavioral challenges, housing instability, or other barriers impacting educational success.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations, businesses, institutions of higher education, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to expand resources available to Christina students and families.
  • Connect families with community resources, including food assistance, housing supports, healthcare, mental health services, employment resources, and other wraparound supports.
  • Collaborate with district departments to support initiatives related to attendance, school climate, student wellness, social-emotional learning, and community schools.
  • Support Title I Family Engagement requirements and assist schools with the development and implementation of Family Engagement Plans and parent activities, as applicable.
  • Coordinate and facilitate District Parent Advisory Committee meetings and other family leadership opportunities.
  • Collect, analyze, and report family engagement data to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports in accordance with district procedures.
  • Attend evening and occasional weekend events to support district and school family engagement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
