Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Physical Therapy, the faculty member will perform duties related to teaching, service and research in the physical therapy field.

  • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose
  • Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and financial plans
  • Use active learning strategies to teach entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy learners in faculty member's area of expertise
  • Create and maintain a scholarly agenda in faculty member's area of expertise consistent with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
  • Engage in service to the university and the profession through committee appointments, providing continuing education offerings, clinical practice, consulting, etc.
  • Exemplify and promote the core values of the physical therapy profession to students and peers, which include accountability, altruism, compassion/caring, excellence, integrity, professional duty, and social responsibility
  • Advise learners in academic and professional development issues
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Either post-professional doctorate degree or DPT with clinical specialist certification.
  • Eligible for physical therapy licensure in Mississippi
  • Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of academic or clinical teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with and willingness to employ active learning strategies.

Physical Demands

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard classroom, lab or office setting, and to use standard office equipment including a computer
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, and minor office equipment
  • Must have ability to lift and carry regular laboratory equipment
