Full-time members of the faculty are professional educators who have the primary responsibility of fulfilling the institution's mission, vision, values, strategic plan, Board of Trustees' charges and

educational philosophy, and primary goal of providing a quality education for all students attending the colleges. Faculty members are classified according to the ranks of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Faculty members are subject to Board policies, including academic freedom, and are also bound by its accompanying responsibilities. They are directly responsible to a discipline coordinator and/or department chair and have responsibilities through the administrative structure at their respective college and to the district. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, adviser, mentor, and facilitator of learning. Position Summary:

The Automotive Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in automotive systems, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level employment and industry certifications while maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach courses in automotive technology including:

  • Engine repair
  • Brake systems
  • Electrical and electronic systems
  • Steering and suspension
  • HVAC systems
  • Transmission and drivetrain systems
  • Automotive diagnostics
  • Develop and update lesson plans, labs, and instructional materials aligned with industry standards.
  • Provide hands-on training using modern automotive tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures.
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, labs, tests, and practical demonstrations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records.
  • Ensure laboratory safety and compliance with OSHA and institutional policies.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding career pathways and certification opportunities.
  • Collaborate with local automotive businesses and industry partners to support internships and workforce placement.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain shop equipment and assist with inventory management.
