Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of Facilities Duty Supervisor in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation.

Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator (Sackville Sports Stadium) or the Aquatics Manager (Captain William Spry), the Facility Duty Supervisor is responsible for on-site evening/weekend support of various facility departments in programming, aquatics, administrative, and membership services. This position also provides monitoring of casual recreation staff, liaising with maintenance staff, equipment and inventory control, responding to phone and email, and providing front line customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors the day-to-day operations of casual part time staff and assists with training, coaching, scheduling, filling staff replacements, and onboarding.
  • Delivers friendly, quality customer service to both internal and external clients through emails, phone, and in-person interaction.
  • Performs various administrative tasks such as updating facility voicemail, data collection and entry, as required.
  • Monitors, patrols, and ensures safety of the facility, including but not limited to changing rooms, washrooms, weight room, parking lot and centre grounds via a safe and approved method.
  • Responds to all security, first aid, and staff incidents within the facility. Completes incident/accident and security reports, verifies staff reports for accuracy, and submits to manager.
  • Reports facility deficiencies and safety concerns during regular patrols and conducts facility inspections when required
  • Responsible for opening, closing, and securing the building when required. In coordination with building operations and direct manager, assists with making delay and closure decisions such as Pool Fouling, power outages, weather and lost persons.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum three years' experience working in a recreation, fitness or Aquatic Environment.
  • Minimum one year customer service experience dealing with the public.
  • Supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
  • Strong teamwork and customer services skills
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or willing to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • Current National Lifeguard and Swim For life instructor would be an asset.
  • Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of recreation service delivery
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Legend or Xplor software

WORK STATUS: Casual

HOURS OF WORK: Casual, various hours. Evening and weekend shifts but may be required during early morning or daytime hours due to operational needs. Facility operations is 7 days a week open between 5:00am and 11:00pm.

SALARY: $21.70 per hour

WORK LOCATION: Captain William Spry Community Centre, Halifax
