Facilities Technician (Part-Time) 

Kalamazoo Nature Center | Kalamazoo, MI 

Schedule: Typically ~24 hours/week, 8-hour days (Friday–Sunday) 
Compensation: $16.00–$18.00/hour (depending on experience) 
Classification: Regular, Part-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt) 
Supervisor: Director of Facilities Management

Position Overview 

The Facilities Technician is essential to creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and program participants. This role focuses on three key areas: 

1. Custodial Excellence 
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, floors, windows, and high-touch surfaces 
  • Maintain cleanliness across visitor and staff spaces 
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure safe, functional facilities 

2. Event Setup & Teardown 
  • Prepare spaces for programs, events, and rentals 
  • Arrange and move tables, chairs, and equipment 
  • Reset spaces efficiently to support a wide variety of activities 

3. Light Maintenance & Seasonal Groundskeeping 
  • Perform routine outdoor work such as mowing, raking, trimming, leaf blowing, and snow removal 
  • Operate tools and equipment including mowers and leaf blowers 
  • Assist with minor maintenance and troubleshooting (electrical, plumbing, general upkeep) 

This role also includes opening and closing facilities, supporting satellite locations, and contributing to a positive and safe visitor experience. 

Key Responsibilities 
  • Open and close buildings and grounds following established procedures 
  • Maintain indoor and outdoor cleanliness and safety 
  • Support events, programs, and rentals with setup and teardown 
  • Perform groundskeeping tasks throughout all seasons 
  • Travel occasionally to offsite KNC locations 
  • Assist with light maintenance and facility upkeep 
  • Provide support for volunteer projects and on-call needs 

What We’re Looking For 
  • Experience with custodial work, facilities support, or event setup 
  • Ability to operate small machinery (mowers, snow blowers, leaf blowers) 
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Friendly, professional attitude with a customer-service mindset 
  • Valid driver’s license (must meet KNC insurance requirements) 
  • Ability to pass a background check 

Working Conditions 
  • This is a weekend role with occasional evening/holiday availability required 
  • Ability to respond to facilities emergencies 
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varied conditions 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain active throughout the workday 
  • On-site position
