Day in the life

As a Facilities Systems Maintenance Specialist at Paket, you are the steady hand that keeps the plant running. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you begin by walking the site, checking critical utilities, scanning for anything out of spec, and prioritizing the day. From diagnosing a flickering light circuit to servicing an air compressor, your work safeguards safety, quality, and uptime. This is a facilities-focused role with hands-on impact across the entire operation.

What you will handle

  • Survey buildings and infrastructure to spot malfunctioning systems; make repairs or coordinate approved vendors.
  • Tackle minor electrical tasks: replace or repair fixtures, switches, receptacles, bulbs and tubes, ballasts, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, and cords using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Support and improve Paket’s tank farm.
  • Address minor plumbing issues: repair leaks in drains and faucets; clear clogged drains and toilets.
  • Perform touch-up and light construction: painting, carpentry, and masonry (surface prep; apply paints, stains, varnishes; hang doors; fit locks and handles).
  • Conduct routine servicing of facilities equipment to prevent failures and reduce costly repairs that could impact production.
  • Operate a low-pressure boiler system; perform boiler operation and troubleshooting.
  • Perform regular checks and upkeep on air compressors and vacuum pumps.
  • Maintain the fire compression system, including churn tests.
  • Train employees on safe operation of new or newly acquired equipment.
  • Follow all safety regulations without exception.
  • Document maintenance activities and equipment history to ensure traceability and continuous improvement.
  • Order parts and manage inventory (metals stock, miscellaneous components for production machinery, and more).
  • Partner with management to report equipment issues and recommend facilities best practices for peak performance.
  • Execute work across building trades: electrical, plumbing, steam fitting, carpentry, electrical distribution, compressed air systems, HVAC, boiler, fabrication, grounds maintenance, communications, welding, and equipment installation.
  • Operate shop equipment such as saws, drill presses, and diverse hand and power tools; keep tools safe, clean, and service-ready.
  • Be available to take calls and support emergency repairs outside normal business hours when needed.

Knowledge you bring

  • Trade tools, materials, and techniques spanning facilities maintenance disciplines (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, locksmithing, equipment mechanics).
  • Health and safety procedures and precautions.
  • Technical depth within your specialty area(s).
  • Proper storage of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Strong record-keeping practices.
  • Adherence to Federal, State, and local building codes and regulations, including the Illinois Fire Code.

Physical demands

  • Work while standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
