ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Under the direction of and reports to the Director of Finance
SCOPE
  • Responsible for the direct day-to-day supervision of the Building Services employees who are assigned to maintenance, custodial services, and grounds. This is a working supervisor position that requires the ability to be hands-on support in daily maintenance tasks as well as supervise maintenance, custodial, and grounds employees. Oversight of outside contractors will also be required. This person should have strong experience with hands-on maintenance and the aptitude to learn all maintenance needs required of the facilities team.
TRAINING/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Arts preferred
  • Five years of full-time experience as a journey trades worker
  • Three years of equivalent experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Proficient mechanical aptitude and understanding
  • People management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with experience in stewardship of resources
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assume responsibility for the overall direction and management of school facilities maintenance and operations, grounds, and planning for new technologies and future growth under the general direction of the Director of Finance, and in accordance with Board objectives and policies
  • Operate buildings in the most efficient, cost-effective stewardly way possible
  • Perform as needed custodial/maintenance/grounds work
  • Schedule and supervise preventive and proactive maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facilities
  • Be available to coordinate responses for school district emergencies after hours and/or weekends
  • Assist in building inspections and data collecting to determine necessary repairs/improvements
  • Strategically work with administrators to determine needs and priorities of the district; work within budget constructs of the departments within the physical plant in making decisions
  • Work with contractors, obtain competitive bids, and approve proposed repairs
  • Seek appropriate vendors of services to perform repairs and installations as needed; giving appropriate consideration for legacy vendors, community donor vendors, and new vendors
  • Assist in developing a budget for Building and Grounds
  • Coordinate the upkeep and repair of all the school district's equipment including the school tractors, mowers, custodial equipment, etc.
  • Schedule and supervise maintenance employees in repair, installation, and maintenance of buildings
  • Establish standards of work skills, equipment, and materials for the department
  • Train and review actions of personnel; make appropriate recommendations regarding such personnel matters related to selection, discipline, and termination
  • Assist in developing consistent departmental procedures and policies
  • Take initiative to resolve problems and work with staff members throughout the district as needed
  • Monitor work quality throughout the district and address performance issues within the facilities, grounds, and custodial teams
  • Receive, store, and issue all maintenance materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Ensure buildings are safe and conducive to student learning
  • Responsible for regular check-ins with the capital projects team and serve as the primary contact with the general contractor(s)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month work year - salary to be determined by the Head of Schools.

EVALUATION: Evaluations will occur annually on or before June 1 of each fiscal year. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Human Resource Director's policies on evaluation of administrative personnel by the Head of Schools.
