Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute is a physician-owned, orthopedic hospital serving the Kansas City area for over 25 years. KCOI has 17 Inpatient beds for overnight stays, 8 state-of-the-art operating rooms, Ortho Urgent Care, imaging modalities, outpatient rehabilitative services, and a large, affiliated physician practice. We are seeking a fulltime Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our growing organization. This position reports to the Director of Facilities Management. Healthcare experience is a plus, but willing to train a motivated individual with an eye for detail and a commitment to service excellence. The ability to multi-task, and work within a team or independently, is imperative.  Effective communication skills and excellent attendance are essential. The position is fulltime, 40 hours per week. Weekend availability is a must, and days off will vary, although the schedule is primarily Monday thru Friday. Weekday hours are 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. Excellent pay and benefits. Job Function:

  • Conducts routine and periodic inspections of equipment and systems in campus buildings and completes corresponding log sheets and other documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements per NFPA, CMS, accrediting organizations, and other authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Self-performs repairs and preventive maintenance to equipment and systems, and/or coordinates with contracted service provider, to include: mechanical; HVAC; building automation; life safety; refrigeration systems; ice machines; dishwashers; plumbing; electrical and lighting; low voltage; medical gases; above-ceiling maintenance; door hardware and card access systems; nurse call; televisions; beds and stretchers; furnishings; minor repairs to walls, floors and ceilings; and occasional grounds maintenance.
  • Relies on great communication skills in a fast-paced environment, to include scheduling work when it’s convenient for customer departments, and to provide status updates regarding various systems. Works well in groups to resolve issues.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner by gathering and analyzing information. Develops quality alternative solutions.
  • Assists in move management to relocate offices and equipment within a building, or between buildings.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications and Skills Preferred:

  • Technical training or degree, or trade certificate related to a trade (i.e. HVAC, plumbing, electrical or electronics)
  • 3 years of minimum work experience performing general building maintenance.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to use computer and software such as Microsoft Outlook and Word; some experience using Excel.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and to follow written instructions, including using computerized work order system; ability to interpret blueprints is essential.
  • Must be able to stand for extended lengths of time; push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance; work outdoors in various weather conditions; and may include working around blood or body fluids.
  • Will need to be familiar with a variety of hand tools and test meters.
