Overview

Catholic Charities of Buffalo is seeking a full‑time Facilities Maintenance worker to support the Facilities Department. This position works in a team‑oriented environment and is responsible for routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and general upkeep of agency facilities and grounds.

The Facilities Maintenance role plays a vital role in ensuring that Catholic Charities locations remain safe, clean, and functional. This role offers an excellent opportunity to learn, grow, and develop skills in facilities maintenance while supporting the agency's mission.

This position is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (40 hours per week), with the potential for overtime as needed by the agency.

Job Responsibilities

  • Pick up and deliver items using company vehicles, including donations, furniture, and food items for agency pantries.

  • Move and transport furniture between Catholic Charities locations as requested.

  • Maintain building exteriors and grounds, including removal of garbage and debris.

  • Remove snow and ice from roadways, parking lots, ramps, and walkways.

  • Perform lawn and grounds care including cutting, planting, watering, and fertilizing lawns, trees, and shrubs.

  • Set up and break down rooms for meetings and events across the organization.

  • Assist with building installations, repairs, and renovations, including electrical fixtures, switches, and semi‑skilled construction tasks.

  • Perform routine carpentry, painting, patching, and light plumbing duties based on skill level and experience.

  • Operate gasoline‑powered equipment including trucks, trailers, mowers, and weeders.

  • Assist other maintenance‑related tasks and departments as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Prior experience in general maintenance, facilities, or grounds keeping preferred.

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance and building repair.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, multi‑site environment.

  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds and perform physical labor including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including snow, heat, and rain.

  • Valid New York State Driver's License required; must be able to safely operate agency vehicles, trailers, and powered equipment.

  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical systems a plus.

  • Strong time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and respond to changing maintenance needs.

  • Reliable, dependable, flexible, and able to communicate effectively with staff and supervisors.
