Job Title: Facilities Maintenance and Project Engineering Manager
Location: Wallingford, CT
Duration: Direct Hire Onsite
Salary: $90-130K DOE plus Excellent Benefits
The Facilities and Project Engineering Manager oversees Plant Maintenance, Tooling, Safety, and Project Engineering. Responsibilities encompass all production equipment, tooling, infrastructure, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and building mechanical systems supporting 24/7 operations.
This position directly manages maintenance personnel, ensuring the upkeep of plant equipment and tooling while efficiently diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues to minimize production downtime.
The Facilities and Project Engineering Manager coordinates with Planning to schedule maintenance activities, tooling preventative maintenance (PM), equipment PM, and Capital Expenditure (CapX) project installations at times that minimize disruption to the production schedule.
Collaboration with engineers and manufacturing teams is essential to support safe and efficient daily production operations.
Additionally, this role leads engineering capital expenditure projects, managing every phase from initial planning through execution of budgeted initiatives. The position requires strong cross-functional collaboration to ensure consistent production of high-quality products while promoting a safe and well-organized work environment.
Essential Functions
- Safe operation of all Company manufacturing equipment
- Certified to drive and operate Company fork trucks within the plant
- Effectively manage all Maintenance and Roll Making Department personnel and ensure proper utilization of time and resources
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of all plant equipment and roll tooling production
- Lead Project Engineering activities, including:
- Assessing needs
- Defining specifications
- Establishing budgets
- Implementing engineering projects
- Collaborate with all departments to develop a comprehensive capital budget aligned with organizational growth objectives
- Support machine and tooling design and development
- Provide prompt maintenance support to production departments
- Effectively schedule Maintenance and Roll Making Department activities to meet production requirements, including tooling such as:
- Roll Making
- Dies
- Screws
- Ancillary equipment
- Develop and track departmental performance metrics
- Provide direction and support for planning, implementing, and executing the Preventative Maintenance Program while working around production schedules
- Coordinate and manage maintenance support during extrusion teardowns and/or changeovers
- Conduct scheduled equipment inspections to identify malfunctions
- Maintain records of repair and maintenance activities and spare parts inventory using Company's Excel-based systems and/or Microsoft GP ERP system
- Submit purchase requests for spare parts and maintenance equipment
- Oversee building and grounds maintenance, including:
- Painting
- Weeding
- Snow removal
- Cleaning
- Lighting
- Coordinate work functions with other departments
- Ensure all work areas, including building and grounds, are clean and organized
- Work effectively with production employees in a respectful, team-oriented manner
- Complete special projects and assignments as directed by supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned or as business needs dictate

- Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for each job function
- Maintain up-to-date safety training requirements; both company and employee share responsibility for completion
- Maintain optimal product quality standards and adhere to Company’s Quality Program
Position Requirements
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in an Engineering discipline required
- Advanced degree in Engineering, MBA, or PMP certification preferred
Work Experience
- 10+ years of Maintenance and Project Engineering Management experience in an industrial environment
- Plastics processing experience preferred
