The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Fabrication Shop Manager to join our team as a member of our growing and innovative New Construction Mechanical division. In the role, you will develop strategies, goals, and objectives for the fabrication shop to ensure delivery of the fabrication safely, on time and on budget with high customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include:

Financial Management

Assumes financial responsibility for fabrication operations including accurate, timely and relevant reporting to stakeholders.

Responsible for maintaining the capital expense list for the fab shop: gathering requirements, calculating ROI, acquiring the asset, triggering depreciation

Reviews and approves invoices (subcontractor, vendor, etc.)

Supports annual budget planning process (capital expenses, personnel, operations expenses, special items).

Manages and Prepares client Proposals, Contracts, and Change orders for internal Department projects.

Track finished goods and raw goods inventory. Complete transfers to other departments or projects when required.

Report on job performance as needed.

Processes job cost transfers when required.

Operations Management

Responsible for Shop Operations to include Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery; including accurate, timely and relevant performance reporting to stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between the shop floor, project managers, and all departments to ensure project execution and client satisfaction.

Drive Shop operations and initiatives towards Shop Network strategies.

Ensure compliance with McKinstry safety standards and regulatory requirements; Integrate Accident Prevention Programs into Shop operations.

Coordinate Facilities and Maintenance programs to ensure machine uptime.

Ensure On-Time Delivery by coordinating Manpower plans with craft leadership.

Support Quality management system deployment within Shop processes.

Champion process improvement initiatives to increase Shop productivity.

Team Management

Coaches and mentors team members across functional groups.

Define individual responsibilities and accountabilities. Ensure clear understanding across the shop team (both union and staff).

Understand and ensure Shop operations remain in compliance within each crafts collective bargaining agreement.

Act as steward of McKinstry culture; continuously support Shop morale and culture as a Preferred Place to Work. Communicate and influence policies and procedures.

Establishes and leads meetings as required.

Set annual goals and conduct performance reviews with direct reports.

Develop trusted relationships with union personnel

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Five (5) years of experience in project management, fabrication, manufacturing or construction is required with Three (3) years of supervision experience preferred.

Experience working with a union workforce is preferred.

Experience in Operations Management, Process Improvement, or Lean Manufacturing preferred.

Proficient with scheduling software

Completed OSHA 30 class is required (can be completed after starting role)

Experience working for a mechanical fabricator or manufacturer preferred.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.

Proficient with construction financial programs and software preferred.

Understanding of accounting and financial management preferred.

The pay range for this position is $93,600 - $147,060 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
