Description
The Extrusion Technician is responsible for operating and monitoring extrusion equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality pipe production. Thisposition requires maintaining process control, performing quality checks, assisting with equipment changeovers, and supporting overall production operations with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate extrusion equipment in accordance with company standards for safety, quality, and production efficiency.
- Monitor extrusion temperatures, pressures, preheater settings, and other critical process conditions; make adjustments as needed.
- Assist with product and equipment changeovers.
- Perform in-process quality checks and inspections according to company specifications.
- Cut and prepare product samples for Quality Control testing.
- Accurately record production, inspection, and equipment performance data.
- Identify and report product defects, equipment issues, or process abnormalities to supervision.
- Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs on production equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including cleaning and painting assigned equipment when required.
- Relieve other operators during breaks and lunches as assigned.
- Train and assist new or less experienced employees.
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as required.
- Follow all company safety procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions or hazards.
- Perform additional duties and assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Prior manufacturing or extrusion experience preferred.
- Must successfully complete all required training and progression levels.
- Must obtain and maintain forklift certification during employment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
Employees in this position must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the work shift.
- Work around industrial equipment and in confined production areas with limited clearance.
- Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and controls safely.
- Read and understand production documents, labels, and operating instructions.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Distinguish warning alarms, operational indicators, and product identification markings.
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, sweepers, and other powered industrial equipment.
Work Environment
This position works in a manufacturing environment with exposure to:
- Moving mechanical equipment
- Noise and vibration
- Heat and changing temperatures
- Dust and industrial materials
Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
